Why do silent farts stink and loud ones dont?

Question

You know how it is when one farts silently and leaves a stink bomb, but a loud fart always almost doesnt stink. My aunt actually made a poem out of this fact!
I want to know how and why does it happen like this!

Unfortunately your question shows a staggering level of ignorance on the subject.

In an investigation by the International Fart Research Institute in Oslo, 64.33% of farts acknowledged as "inaudible" acutally registered at less than 1 on the Goody-Olfaction scale. Similarly, a flatulent emissions that were considered "Thunderous" by a research assistant stood 1 m away acknowledged that they had a 59.83% of being above 3.5 on the same scale.

This groundbreaking research doesn't not take into account other factors such as holding it in or pulling your **** cheeks apart to reduce the noise made.

It depends what you eat - poo is basically decomposed food waste, and farts are the gases produced by that decomposition. Vegetarians tend to be less smelly because decomposing meat is nastier than decomposing vegies. At the same time however, vegos tend to fart more often because they eat more beans/lentils etc. Avoid sulphurous foods like cabbage and cauliflower, as well as undercooked legumes (beans, lentils etc). Eat a high fibre diet to keep your digestive system moving.

Loud farts contain mostly air (Nitrogen, Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide) and methane. All those gases are odorless. "SBDs" consist mostly of scatole, indole, methanethiol, ethanethiole, and hydrogen sulfide. All of these gases are most unpleasant as well as toxic in sufficient concentration.

On the other hand, "SBDs" stink so the hard-of-hearing can enjoy them, too!

sorry to contradict here...but just about every one stinks in our house....carpet creepers, nose clenchers....cheek slappers and silent but deadly ones ALL stink! Anytime you wanna come over and check my statement you are more than welcome!!! As for a poem...how about the oldie....

Silent farters are usually constipated, so their farts are "old" and trapped inside. When the gas sips out, it doesn't make a loud noise. Loud farters are not constipated and their farts are "fresh" and not trapped, so they come out booming.

Don't know. But perhaps noise comes with volume i.e. the silent ones don't have much volume. Don't know about the smell, though.
