Because it is on this day that the constitution of India came into force in the year 1950.
The Constitution lays down the basic structure of government under which the people are to be governed. It establishes the main organs of government - the executive, the legislature and the judiciary. The Constitution not only defines the powers of each organ, but also demarcates their responsibilities. It regulates the relationship between the different organs and between the government and the people.
The Constitution is superior to all other laws of the country.
Every law enacted by the government has to be in conformity with the Constitution. The Constitution lays down the national goals of India - Democracy, Socialism, Secularism and National Integration. It also spells out the rights and duties of citizens.

26 January is celebrated as Republic Day because in December 1929, the Congress in its Lahore session had decided to fight for "Poorna Swaraj" or "Complete Independence" and 26 January 1930 was celebrated as the Independence Day since then. And our leaders decided to celebrate 26 January 1950 as the day to enforce the Constitution of India which is a symbol of India's Independence.

first of all y did u enter ur question in this section?
ur answer:On 26 january 1929 the INC(Indian National Congress) declared 'poorna swaraj' as their motto & celebrated the day as independance day Till 1947 jan 26 was known as the Indepeendance day.But after India became independant on 15 aug there was no reason to remember dat day.so when the contitution was made & signed on nov 25 1949,it was decided dat the constitution wud be enacted 4rm 26 jan 1950.It was introduced purposely on 26 jan so as to remember the Independance day of pre independance period & it was possoble as congress was a rulin party then.after that jan 26 is celebrated as the Republic day in our nation

In 1930, the congress decided to celebrate 26 January as independence
day but we were given independence on 15 aug 1947 at 0000hrs. So the consti was adopted on this day though it was completed in Nov. 1949.
That's why.
