NO. Your body is changing at this age and growing. It really does need you to let it sleep for at minimum 7-1/2 to 8 hours. Try your best to get into this habit. I read an article not long ago that stated teens can even 'need' 10 hours of sleep a day. Many adults will sleep on short hours like you but it catches up to them, is fairly unhealthy, and you can even lose a bit of your brain power (which in your case is not good for school). I am sure you're a smart kid and realize you are a very important person to yourself : therefore know that you and kids your age, need all the help you can get to have & keep the kind of grades you need to start a good life for yourself. Good night and sweet dreams!
Ways to sleep better- a cup of hot chocolate or warm vanilla milk (good) just before bedtime... or a herbal tea such as 'camomille'.
Recipe vanilla milk:
1 cup of milk
spoon of sugar or 1 sugar substitute
a capfull of vanilla... and a dash of cinnamon
Microwave for about 1 1/2 min til nice and warm.
Read a book at bedtime and even in the middle of night if you awaken. This always makes me fall asleep and I end up learning something in the process.

I'm sure you FEEL okay. But you actually aren't. 9.2 hours is ideal is needed for young people. That might not be possible, I know, but you need to attempt to do so. Sleep is just as necessary as water, food or oxygen. Without it you'll be very emotional (angry or upset) and your function won't be as sharp. Trust me I didn't sleep one night and that next morning I put my family through hell. You're an athlete. You probably want to be super tall and big. Did you know that during sleep you GROW? Well, your competitors probably sleep at least 8 hours. They have 2 more hours of sleep on you every night. 14 more hours a week than you, or 728 hours per year! That's crazy. *Thats if you get 6 a night. That was with benefit of the doubt! If you get 5, you are looking at 21 hours of more sleep per week and 1029 hours of more sleep a year. If you have trouble sleeping, try drinking warm milk or taking a hot shower. Avoid the meds and things that hype you up: TV, computer, video games, etc. Or even try harder at practice and tire yourself out. Also, get your homework done as early as possible. Im 14 and I get a study hall. If you have one, please take advantage of it. I doubt you are doing something more important than sleeping at night.

it's normal but still, not healthy. I was like that a few years ago... (i'm 16 by the way) and I sleep a lot better now. It;s just hormones messing up your sleep. It'll go back to normal in a few years.

At that age you need at least 8 hrs. That's suppose to be whne you're sleeping the most. But I went through fluctuating sleeping patterns when I was your age so you'll be fine.

I heard of a study recently that stated that teenagers should get 10 hours a night to be able to do all the study etc.
Try searching it on the internet, maybe newspapers.
