A Mixture is two or more products not chemicly bound. Ketchup is a mixture. The products seporate by density.

Because the ingredients in ketchup is heavier than water and sinks to the bottom while the small amount of water in the ketchup stays on top.

THere's water in ketchup, similar to any kind of liquid. The ketchup part, the tomoatos and everything, settle at the bottom of the bottle. The water, which is lighter or less dense, is at the top.

Really the others already gave you the answer, gravity causes the ingredients to separate when the liquid (water) rises to the top.

ketchup comes in only 2 varieties--25% and 33%--whitch is the amount of solids. store your ketchup upside down and you will not have this problem--try it

The Pulp(Which is Heavier) is separated from the MASS,therefore leaving the Juice(Which is Lighter) floating on the top.
