Nope, that is an assumption made by the Catholic Church.

Nowhere in the Gospels is Mary named as a prostitute. She is the woman from whom Jesus cast out seven demons. In Luke, there is mention of a woman, a sinner, who annoints Jesus' feet and washes them with her hair. Pope Gregory I equates this woman with Mary Magdalen, and though never explicitly calls her a prostitute, said she repented upon meeting Jesus.
This helped carry the myth that the Magdalen was a prostitute all the way up to the 20th century, when the Vatican, in 1969, made clear that she is not in fact a prostitute nor the sinner she was once thought to be.

he New Testament, Mary Magdalene was a woman from the town of Magdala, near Tiberias. She was there during Jesus' crucifixion and comforted him in his final moments. She also discovered the empty tomb and was a witness to his resurrection. Furthermore, she was there at the beginning of the movement that would become Christianity.
However, she is portrayed quite differently, namely as a prostitute, who is fallen and then redeemed. She is mentioned in each of the four gospels, but not once does it mention that she was a prostitute

No. This is what the catholic church came up with when they wanted to demean the leadership of women and redefine the role that Mary Magdeline had in Jesus's life. Mary was actually very important in Christ's life. She was a leader as much as the male apostles were.

Scripture shows she had seven demons.
I found nothing about being a prostitute.
:
Mark 16:9
Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils

it's not written in there, but the translation is so shady that a lot of women are called Mary and the last name is never mentioned. And in the 3rd and 4th century, the Catholic Church called her unchaste because she was a sinner (no one ever called her a prostitute but merely implies that she is one)

No. Just a vicious rumour spread wildly by the Catholic sect and rerun by unthinking individuals in their misinterpretations due to the fact that it was unthinkable, ridiculous and unacceptable to the catholic church that Jesus thought her to be the main and perhaps only apostle
