It depends what you failed to appear for...If it was for a misdemeanor offence, probably they aren't out looking for you but if they should accidentally come across you...say after a fight at a club and they are interviewing witnessess, or lets say your neighbours house burns down and they are looking for witnessess...they may come calling and want to see your ID...
If it was a failure to appear for a felony, then there is a good chance they will actually send somebody out to look for you specifically if you don't turn yourself in within a few weeks. They may try to come by your residence to arrest you, find out where you work and arrest you there, or put a BOLF report (Be On Lookout For) out on your vehicle.
Sadly, the best way out is to turn yourself in. If you make them come and find you, your sentence, if convicted, will be more severe.

I don't think that they will be able to pull up this information at the DMV, they only check to see if your license is still valid. However, the cops will hunt you down and come arrest you. I accidently forgot about a court date and they came to my parents' house three times a week until I turned myself in ... and had $1000 bond! The best thing that you can do is to talk to the DA and come up with a good reason for missing court, he/she might actually give you another court date if you've got a believable reason and the warrant isn't too old.

If you apply for any job with the government at any level. Background checks require a criminal records check.
If you get arrested for anything, not just a ticket. The cops will run you through NCIC & LEIN. Also, this will be repeated when you are booked into the jail, and before your release, and sometimes at periodic intervals during your stay.
If you travel internationally. When your present yourself for inspection to ICE, your name will have already been run through more databases than you can imagine. You will already be flagged, and will immediately be taken into custody by Immigration/Customs officials. You may also get flagged by a foreign government, if they have access to US databases.
If someone hires a private investigator to look at you. Many have friends that can do a check on you. Then it's just a phone call to the police.
If anyone you know drops a dime on you. Ex-boyfriend/girlfriend, angry neighbor, your boss (background checks are more and more common these days, even in the civilian world).

depend on what the warrant is for. if it's traffic, you don't have to worry. You can also go down to court and let them know you are there to answer a court apperance that you missed and there is a warrant , judge will enter not guilty plea and reschedule. if they catch you out then they will lock you up and make sure you see the judge. call down to your court and ask them. I'm not being funny.

The bastages will come right to your house regardless of the seriousness of the crime. They've staked me out with an undercover task force at home for a simple first offense driving on a suspended. Put nothing past our legal system--

It depends on the state you live in, but in most states the DMV is not connected to the police system. They only get information on whether or not your license is renewable due to outstanding fines, not whether or not the police are looking for you.
Otherwise be careful of them showing up at your house, too!

So you failed to appear when there was a warrant for your arrest? Just keep doing wrong and you are bound to get arrested on both counts!

if you register in the system at all they will find you, its better to go to your local court and willingly pay the fine and talk to them about it, youll get off far easier and may not even get arrested
