Look at bridesmaids' dresses, and pick out one you like and order it in your desired color. Many BM dresses today are quite fancy, and could easily pass as bridal gowns. Check out houseofbrides.com for several different brands.
MaggieSottero.com also offers some bridal gowns in colors other than white.
Also, you could go to a department store with a formal department, and select a nice evening gown in your desired color.

I've seen a red one and green one. Are you interested in those two colors? I've seen an irridescent green and purple over white. Don't know if you'd like the style. You could probably have your white dress dyed to any color you want.
