Is it worth the trouble? Will it come out well if just rolled with a rolling pin?

Yes you can. Buy Won Ton wrappers. They're made of flour dough. They come in packages in square shapes. Lay one Won Ton wrapper out, put filling in middle, brush egg yolk on outside edge where other Won Ton wrapper will meet it. Use fork to press both edges together. Voila. Ravioli. I've been making a lamb, mint ravioli for years with Won Ton wrappers.

It is definately worth it if you can do it easily.

At kitchen shops they have moulds, their like and an ice cube tray - you lay one sheet of pasta down on the bottom, press the filling in and cover with another sheet of pasta and roll a rolling pin over to cut them.

Alternatively you can use a ravioli cutter or a biscuit cutter to cut shapes then fill individually and press sides with a fork.

Good luck

It's very hard to get the dough thin enough with a rolling pin. You'd be amazed to see how thin the dough becomes in the pasta machine. When the pasta is not thin enough, it will take longer to cook and it won't taste that good.

So my advice is to use the machine or don't bother at all.

Like everything worth doing well practice makes perfect. You can roll it out by hand and also get a roller which will help you cut the right size squares, or you can use a knife.Good luck.
