Well, my parents found my smokes when I was 15, they freaked out, brought my upstairs and made me smoke as many as I could until I got sick. They thought they taught me a lesson, but they threw the remaining smokes out in the garbage. The next day I was really wanting to smoke, even though up to that point I might have 1 smoke a week. I was emptying the garbage and found the half empty pack laying there, calling to me. I took it, and had a smoke later that day. That was 20 years ago, and I'm having a cigarette right now. Don't do that.

I'd bust him/her. I'd casually next time I was running to the store ask if he/she wanted me to pick up a pack of smokes while I was there. After Jr. picks up his teeth up off the floor, I'd explain that they weren't getting away with anything.

Depending on his/her age you may not be able to stop them. They have had all this anti smoking crap jammed down their throats since conception. I would also do the obligatory lecture of why they can't smoke and lay down some ground rules. No smoking in or around the house, no smoking in my car, if I was paying for Jr.'s car no smoking in there either. I will check; and I can smell it a mile away.

I used to smoke quit 10 years ago so I know where of I speak. If he/she is paying for cigarettes with money they earn from a job and they are over 16 good luck with stopping them. If you giving them an allowance, make it stop if they continue smoking.

You have to be creative with teenager otherwise you start sounding like the teacher on Charlie Brown, "wah wah wah wah wah." They tune you out and don't even hear you.

Well, This is a good one.
I raised 5 children to adults (2 girls & 3 boys) and none are smokers. I was stressing the dangers of smoking long before they where old enough to think about it. Then in their teen years their 33 yr. old cousin died a horrible death of lung cancer due strickly to smoking the Drs.said. Ronnie was gone in 6 months. That made a big impact on my children. I was never a smoker but my husband was. All the nagging in the world would not stop him, oh he tryed but anyway one day at the Bowling Alley he was having a heart attact and wound up in near death surgery and after that surgery he never picked up another ciggarette. It took that. He is fine today at 80.~~~~~~ Praise God !!!

So to answer your question, I would say talk to you son in a one on one and calmly tell him that you love him & you know the danger and pain down the road of what he is doing and you don't want that for him. Ask him to read with you some of these answers you get here on this site perhaps, and then ask him to give you his ciggarettes and promise you he will not experiment with smoking anymore.
That is what I would do and I feel for me it would work.
Good luck to you. It is not easy raising young people. especially today. Blessing to you and your family.~~~~~~~Jill

Show them every advert you can, restrict their money if they need anything buy it for them. Do them packed lunches if you give them dinner money they can buy ciggarettes at school for 50pence each.

Make them do more exercise and continually tell them how awful it will be to die from smoking.

Ask the local hospital if they have any terminal lung cancer patients who are willing to speak to them.

Speak to your GP and perhaps get them some help.

Confront him/her and let them know that you are aware of what he/she is doing. Then you proceed to scare the hell out of them, get any and all information including pictures as to the dangers and consequences of smoking and proceed to together to get away from this nasty habit. Good luck.

i dont think anyone can really teach a person NOT to do anything, they have to make the mistake for themselves. tell them about your experience with it, let them know you dont support the idea. and they will just have to learn for themself. this isnt something you can prevent. this is something you can only warn of. hope that your child is mature and knows to do what is best for they're health.

DONT BE A HYPOCRITE!!!
