if the IRS and the fedral government have all my income info, why do I need to file my own taxes? They have my income info and my spending reports. Why am I asked to do the paprer work?

1. Because that's the law. They do have most of your income information but often not all of it. And they don't have all of your "spending reports".

2. If you're like most folks, you have a refund coming. If you don't file, you just donated that refund to the government. If you're feeling generous, give it to Fisher House or the Shriner's Burn Institute or the Red Cross or a Women's Shelter -- just don't donate it to the damn Feds!

Because the IRS does NOT have all your info. They have a lot, but not all.

If you are a wage earner and a little bit of bank interest, they have all your income info, but they don;t know your marital status or children, etc. to qualify for various credits, deductions, etc.

Filing is just a "tallying the score" for the year.
