Is it so hard to see that Illegal imigrants are the modern day slaves? they are paid very poor wages and do back breaking work... even if they do use machines to farm they are still considered heavy machinery its not as simple as driving a car. you have to accually know how to control and opperate those machines, It takes time and effort into learning how to operate those machines. Even then there are still many crops that have to be picked by hand like strawberries and grapes, these crops are too fragile to be machine harvested. I doubt many farm owners would want to pay people more then 5 dollars an hour for crops they can only sell for about 1 or 2 a pound. Dont forget they also have to pay for shipping.... if you think its so easy try it for yourself if not dont talk trash and say you will do it because you know you would much rather sit in front of a moniter sipping your star bucks and checking your messages on myspace, all while your being paid at least 8 bucks an hour instead of 5 or 6.

I have been a farmer for 26 years and have worked right along with these hard working people many hours throuout the years. I have eaten their food and drank their beer, fought with a few laughed with them and cried with them when something bad has happened to one of them. I consider a lot of them my friends. Yet illigal is still illigal, I would think that the government would be smart enough to figure out a guest worker program. I have waited for years hoping Mexico would wake up and change their corrupt government in for one that is for the betterment of their country. But doesn't lool like it will ever happen. Just because we need their help in low paying jobs doesn't make being illigal right. they do take advantage of our system. Of the 20 million or so of them according to numbers I read at the Library of congress website only 22% of them do these low paying jobs. The highest number of felons in our prisons are illigal immigrants. they use our emergency rooms and never pay. A lot of hospitals have closed and continue to close because of this. Simply put their impact on America is far more negative then it is positive. The last numbers I saw at the library of congress web site was for the year 2000 and illigal immigration has cost the U.S. in access of 700 million dollars a year. But I believe it could be made positive if the politicians in Washington would think past potintial votes for themselves if they legalize them and think about what's good for our country.

Most of the jobs are already done by those legally here. You don't know what you are talking about.

As for doing my part, I would pay the $10 per year my family would have to pay to raise farm wages for those legally here out of poverty level, and save money because of the reduction in drain on services I subsidize with my taxes. For that matter, I would subsidize farmers MORE to make it cost effective to farm in the US.

With all of our alternatives I think dependence on foreign oil is optional, but there is no way I think we should be dependent on foreign food.

It would be even better to stop subsidizing US farms and let the illegal immigrants do profitable farm work in their own countries instead.

Every year, the US government gives billions and billions of dollars to US farmers in various subsidies in order to keep up with similar subsidies for famers in the European Union.

All of these subsidies depress food prices and make farming unprofitable in poor countries such as Mexico and other Latin America countries.

This whole charade of illegal immigrants coming to US to work on US farms is the result of government subsidies to US and European famers.

Stop the subsidies in rich countries, let poor farmers do their farming work in their own countries instead, and buy the produce from them.

There is absolutely no need for this charade of poor unemployed shmucks running accross the US border in order to eek out a few dollars and send them back to their relatives in poor countries.

What the hell type of picture do you get in your head about farming?
Street cleaners sit in machines to cleanstreets, not like in the old cartoons.
Have you seen real lawn service people, they use equipment not the back breaking things you are talking about. shut the Turner Classic movie channel off. Stop watch the shows that show the old mexican pop sweating and say SEE Senor.

I agree but the thousands of jobs that the illegal imigrants are taking doesn't even compare to themillions of jobs being outsourced to the far east by our own companies.

Better idea. First start doing the jobs. That way the illegals will not have jobs.
