People are backward because they have accepted their backwardness as a reality beyond their control. Other can help but the initiative to remove backwardness should be taken by people themselves. Let us remember, Improvement starts with 'I'.

I would not call the age of computers and jet planes and trips in space backwards. We can travel by car or motorcycle 1,000 miles a day easily if we drive or ride all day, so how can that be backwards?
We can turn our computers on and if we have some kind of instant message installed, and a web cam and speakers and a microphone we can talk to and see a person across the world from us.
