Why should people with HIV live in a special hospital when many times they aren't in need of constant medical care? Most people are responsible enough to take their meds on a regular basis and don't need a professional there to do that for them. HIV positive people usually only need specialized medical attention once they've developed AIDS -- something that is seen less and less thanks to the development of new antivirals.

If your desires to lock them all away stems from your fear of coming in contact with the virus, you should know that HIV can only be spread through blood or body fluid contact -- so if you are living a responsible lifestyle, your likelihood of contracting it should be little to none.

To address one of the answers above ... not everyone with HIV knows that they have HIV ... so this wouldn't cut out the need for medical professionals to be cautious when dealing with ANY patient. Also, there are many other bloodborne pathogens besides HIV, so the doctors/nurses would have to continue to be careful anyway.

Some people contract the virus from their mistakes, but who hasn't made mistakes? Just because theirs ended in a devastating way doesn't mean that they don't have the right to live as normal a life as possible.

Only if we wanted to protect them from people with diseases they could catch. Fact is that you could end up being more dangerous to a person with HIV than they would be to you. But then, in general, you have probably ended up even working next to a person with HIV or eating food fixed by them etc and never known it. I think it would be more important that you get educated on HIV.

Hello,
Absolutely not! You have nothing to fear from an HIV patient.
You are probably around people with HIV, all the time, in your everyday life.

in some places i guess they are, because those areas that have primative hospital situations at best pass as much disease as they cure.
