This question is targeted to U.S. Citizens- Do you feel that your tax dollars spent on the Department of Defense result in you being defended. or do you think of it resulting in something else?

Ive been to the stan and iraq, id much rather risk my life over there than watch another 9/11 happen, people dont really look at that way but its true, so the answer is yes

The Department of Defense oversees Military Operations and was formed initially for the defense of the nation.
However
#1 If your question is does the Department of Defense have the Capability to Defend The United States then the answer is an unmitigated YES!
#2 If your question is are we actually being adequately defended. The Answer is YES
#3 If your question is does the U.S. Tax payer get thier money worth for the Taxes Spent on defense? The Answer is YES
#4 If your Question is Are the Tax dollars being allocated by the Bush administration to military operations in Iraq helping to secure the United States? The Answer is NO!
When was the last time any part of our nation was attacked by a Foreign Nation? Pearl Harbor.
Our own corporate Airlines were used during 911. That wasn't a defense issue...it was an airline security issue that our crappy immigration system allowed to happen.
The War in Iraq & Afghanistan (if you'd call Afghanistan a war) does nothing for the US Tax payer. Absolutely Nothing. Our Head of State is pouring Hundreds of Billions of Dollars and all we get for it are dead soldiers, sailors, and airmen. The Tax payer extracts no benefit!
If you are afraid of terror attacks the military is not the means to stop them. If our national security agency, Central intelligence agency, FBI, and Immigration agency were funded by 1 month of the cash We're spending in Iraq we'd be fine. No entity can attack the United States by Military means. It would have to be something like what happened on 911.
We just need to do a better job of watching our borders and who we let in the country and what they do while they're here. Killing people in Afghanistan, Iraq, or anywhere will not stop terrorism. That War did not help us it actually hurt us. If you were an Iraqi would you feel that your life is better now? How many innocent Iraqis have been killed. 4+ years later ask em if they feel liberated. We've totally demolished thier country and now they've gotta deal with a civil war. This has only caused more animosity towards us.

What would stop our enemies from attacking us in large forces if we didn't have a huge military, parts of it stationed in countries of our friends?
