I think, auf weidersehen is goodbye in German and adieu is goodbye in French and that Freidrich is one of the son of Captain VonTrapp. This is actually a song when the Von Trapp family was performing in a Choral Singing Competition in Austria. And that they were planning to escape because Capt. Von Trapp, played by Christopher Plummer didn't want to serve in the German Navy, and Maria played by Julie Andrews was on the way to escape but was intercepted by the Austrian Nazis and was forced to perform first before escaping into Switzerland

Auf Wiedersehen and adieu are both ways of saying goodbye. Auf Wiedersehen is German and literally means "to the further seeing" ie "until we meet again". Adieu is French and literally means "to God" or basically, may God keep you safe.

Friedrich is the older boy's name, English equivalent is Frederick.

When they get to Switzerland, they can keep the adieu or change it to adé even in German, but they'll have to switch to "uuf Wiederluege" if they want to fit in.

"auf wiedersehen" is German for "goodbye"
"adieu" is French for "goodbye"
"friedrich"... I believe, is German for "Frederick"

So it sounds like they were sort of double-stating "goodbye" to someone named Fred, maybe?

In the same song, "au revoir" is a French phrase you say upon parting, also meaning goodbye.

The funny part is when the same song says:
"Adieu, adieu, to yieu and yieu and yieu"

The "yieu" *looks* French, but is really just a silly French-ish spelling and pronunciation of the English "you," if I recall correctly.
