I'm feeling pretty sick and my nose is really runny. Most notably I'm freezing. I'm wearing 2 touques, 2 sweat shirts, 2 t - shirts and 3 pairs of pants and I still feel freezing cold. Any help on getting better or telling me what I might have would be very welcome.

I had that this morning. I took my temperature and I was almost three degrees below normal. Three blankets, a fleece shirt, fleece pants and the heat on still didn't help.

What I did:

1. Took an Airborne - that stuff they sell in the drug store to help you beat colds quickly. If you don't have Airborne or the equivalent in Canada (yes, I know what I touque is!), get as much Vitamin C in you as possible and some zinc as well. Send someone to the store for some orange juice and some zinc lozenges.

2. Have something hot to drink. I had some cocoa and it warmed me up enough to sleep.

3. Sleep. If you start running a fever, drink lots of water and let it burn. A fever is your body's way of killing the infection. Never let it go too high though. Anything over 102, get in a lukewarm (not cold) shower. It will bring down your temperature quickly.

I did all of the above today. I was sick this morning (even had laryngitis), sweated through the fever, slept and woke up feeling 100% better. Sore throat is gone, nose is clearing, no fever, no chills.

Good luck honey and feel better soon!

You have a cold, it will usually clear up within about 3-7 days. Try getting lots of rest and get as much sun and light as possible. Also a hot lemon drink with honey or sugar every evening helps you get to sleep.

No pill or drug can yet kill a virus, only your body, so all you can do is wait it out and help your body fight it by resting and eating healthily. Also, since you lose moisture through running nose etc drink plenty of water.

Sleep is the best cure of all. Get lots of it. Drink lots of water. And get healthy doses of Vitamin-C from fruit or juice.
