Fundies say that great flood was 4400 years ago. Bronxe age civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Indus Valley existed during that time. We have able to decipher the writings of Egyptian and Mesopotamian civilizations. They have not recorded any such floods.
Their scriptures were written before Christian mythology was written. Since they were the first written records after man was banned from heaven how can one say that they are not true. They were written about 6000 years ago

Commenting just on other answers, people seem to misunderstand the issue. The point is that, if a civilization is destroyed, you see: -Artifacts made before destruction. -Widespread devestation. -No artifacts for a while. -Artifacts that come after the land is settled again. But that isn't what we see anywhere in the world. It doesn't matter if the histories are preserved orally (although why the only family in the world that god deems righteous enough to save would preserve oral traditions of other nations, some which they wouldn't have had contact with, is curious in itself), nor does it matter if the records are true or not. The point is that somebody made them during a time when people allegedly wouldn't have existed in the area. It isn't like Noah and his descendants had so many children so quickly that they could rush to the old areas, rebuild everything in the same architectural styles, and get agriculture and domestication running so smoothly that a new class of artisans could immediately spring up (and then only use the styles, idioms, and language structures that were prevalent in the old culture), along with a new priestly caste that tossed away the religion of (literally) their parents and grandparents, despite seeing first-hand the effects of the flood, and thus the effects of displeasing god, in favor of the beliefs that existed in the area that they just happened to move to.

Recheck your research.

The flood story is contained in the oral traditions of people all over the world.

There is also a widely known account of the flood in the writings of the ancient middle east.

Google "Gilgamesh".
