If you can go in-depth with Displacement CC, Broe x Stroke, Compression Ratio, and more details the better. Thanks in advanced! I'm planning on getting a 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander very soon and is very interested in comparing all these factors with an Acura RDX or BMW X3. Thanks!

Ill let someone else do the big answer, here is the short one. SOHC develops a little less power than its DOHC brother, but it develops more of its power earlier and is therefore more flexible and generally more economical. The DOHCs rev much harder and higher, and at mid to top revs develop much more power for the same displacement engine, making them ideal for racing or performance vehicles. And if the DOHC is a V-engine, like a V6 or V8, it could be called a Quad-cam.

There is a difference between the two kinds of overhead cam setups for those kind of engines. A sohc engine has only one cam and usualy operates a 8 to 12 valve cylinder head which is pretty good as far as efficency and flow charectoristics go. DOHC engines tend to have from 12 to 24 valve cylinder head and realy has alot of potential of making good horsepower given the proper mods. The more the valves per cylinder makes the head flow charectoristics more efficiant at what its doing with minmal energy also tunability is very broad. It dosnt matter if its a 4 cylinder or a v-10. The purpose behind mutli-valved cylinder heads is pretty much the same all the way across.

These acronyms refer to the number of camshafts per head on the engine, and effect how many valves per cylinder can be activated. SOHC is usually two per cylinder (less powerful) and DOHC is four (more powerful.) Of course with more power goes more gas.

For years America just used larger displacement instead of higher compression ratios and more valves. It actually is a fine method, just not as admired because it's less sophisticated. It's all in the marketing.

And yes, both these types of valve systems are overhead. Meaning fewer moving parts, and weight.

Sohc stand for single over head cam. Dohc stands for Dual over head cams. A Sohc has one cam clsing and opening the valves while a DOHC has 2. The DOHC configuration gives the car better tunability. If 2 engines were identical except that one was SOHC and the other was DOHC you would not be able to tell a difference.

SOHC, mean single overhead Cam, DOHC means Double overhead cam, Vtec stands for Variable Timing and Lift electronic control. Basically all of these things deal with the amount of Horse power ur engines. VTEC is hondas way saying the same thing as SOHC & DOHC

I'm a guy, and individually, I don't like long nails. I know a lot of like very long, painted nails cause they're "so pretty", but I don't like them.

A little bit of toe nail is fine... but I agree with you. Long nails are kinda gross.

It's got nothing at all to do with displacement, bore & stroke, compression ratio, etc. It ONLY refers to the number of camshafts on each cylinder head. A SOHC engine has a single camshaft. A DOHC engine has two.

SOHC- single overhead cam - One cam per cylinder bank.

DOHC- Dual overhaed cams- two per cylinder bank

Bore- cylinder bore size. Stroke the length of stroke of rod, piston into bore.

I dont have the time to get into compression ratio's here. But heres one thought before I go. BUY AMERICAN - Support your own!
