I am seeing half these questions about germany. Wat is the big deal with these guys.
Also you guys admire your military way too much. Just because you add royal to marine doesnt make it better and Navy seals are just as good as SAS if not better and We have our own version of your SBS which practically meets the fighting stards of a Seal and probably better than your SBS units. You don't even know the full military capability of the US.

I am one of the americans that is shunned because I acknowledge my countries problems and I am in a junior program of Johns Hopkins university (most respected med school in america) and I respect your country but you act as if our military is nothing and we dont pay attention to your relationship with germany because we have so much c*** going on within our government.

Yes you are right about us not being arepublic but alot our government usually hides things from us and keeps us split apart due to republicans calling democrats unamerican and turning us against each other. Also our votes dont count in Presidential Elections because electoral colleges decide the winner using our votes like suggestions to choose the president so sometimes we are sort of a republic.

Ohh you are intelligent eh!
You DO realise that your answer- and the ignorance you display- is one of the reasons that you are growing up in a world where the US is reviled and ridiculed everywhere they go...?
Grow up. And don't try to distance yourself from Bush etc, as so many of your compatriots are presently doing. America is a democracy ( NOT a republic) and you should take responsibility for America' s actions, not blame it on some "messed up government".

I am a Brit living near Ramstein in Germany. The KMC (Kaiserslautern Military Community) is the largest concerntration of American forces outside the US. One third of the population of the village where I live is American. I know pilots and doctors who are American and people in the German military. While there are differences in culture and approaches taken, there is a huge amount of respect from the branches of all the services for each other. One big difference is that the Germans have compulsary military service. These young soldiers are in for a short time and do not reflect the proffesionlism of the full time military. In the event of war the easiest way to wipe out the young conscripts would be to bomb all the McDonalds near me, as this is where they spend much of their time. Do not confuse these with some of the people I know. As a footnote: An American pilot I know just back from "down range". While he was away he read my copy of "Vulcan 607" The telling of the RAF's raid on Port Stanley during the Falklands War. He was amazed by what he read and told me last night that "There is no way the US Airforce could have done that" "There is no way we would have put that much effort into one mission" So Brits are best then!

Who's better than who is a bit childish, the SAS have a reputation for getting the job done, as too the SBS who train with the SAS, so ones as good as the other. I don't know who's saying America's Navy seals aren't as good, If i was on the receiving end of either, i think I'd be feeling its time to leave. Leaving these units aside, we all know the Americans have huge amount of resources at their disposal, and are not afraid to get in the thick of it, but the British are capped by spending and can only do some much as our government will not fund them properly, Its like fighting with one hand tied behind your back, something the Americans don't have to put up with.

Comparing military units in the US and UK does no good. Both do an excellent job in their own ways. It is perfectly natural for people to have pride in their armed forces.
People here in UK have a high regard for US military capability, especially those of my generation who were born and grew up during World War Two.
When the US Army arrived in UK in early 1942, they wanted to invade Europe immediately and had to be persuaded by Winston Churchill that such an operation would have been impossible at that point. We all waited two more years and then went in together.
The most famous US Army regiment in my estimation are the Rangers, who's role in combat is often likened to the Royal Marine Commandos. There is no point in trying to assess which regiment or corps is better than another. Everyone gives it one hundred percent as has been proved time and again in actions in Iraq and elsewhere in recent years.
No one should ever under estimate US military capability. This war on Terror is not so much about military capability as an ability to destroy the terrorists in their lair, before they are able to kill us in our cities. This then is where the SAS, the Rangers et al come in.

If the Germans had an effective, strong, and efficient army, they would not need the strongest army in the world to defend them. If they don't like our military, let them vote us out like the did in the Philippines. We granted their democratic wishes and left. What are the Germans so scared of. Do the German people just want to spend USA taxes instead of their own to provide a strong military defense for them and then get billions of dollars pumped into their economy funneled through the American Military Bases?. Sounds like a big case of German political hypocrisy based on Germany's lack of democratic maturity (they know the US will pay the bill and then they slap the US military in their faces.....................I know they have a very weak military, but it's time to spank this spoiled brat country and get them to pay their own way. It's long overdue Germany that you leave the socialized nest and spread your own wings. A good start would be moving our bases to eastern Europe now. Maybe this act would move the vast unemployed Germans from couch potatoes acting like a bunch of Homer Simpson, to honorable soldiers paying for and defending their own country!

Hi! Teenzy, I'm afraid Ecky, Clive and spanner are right, you can't really compare forces of such quality, Clive's point about the Gunge-ho (not thinking before you act or not observing the risks
before taking action)attitude of your American forces is I'm afraid the difference between our two countries. British commanders are more aware of what is going on, much of this is probably due to our free press and what they have experienced in Northern Ireland. The new British commander in chief of the army is of top quality and is not afraid to speak out about the interest of his men
and he personally makes me proud to be British, he is a man to be looked up to but will never get the recognition he deserves.
I'm sorry I have not heard about the German debate so can't comment.

i am by no means a great advert for our military because i'm leaving because i'm fed up of the lifestyle however i think if a person is pleased with their achievements like passing the ommando course or para training then its good for them. the big difference between our army and your army is that we can differentiate between the enemy and our allies how many counts of blue on blue have the british army been involved in during the op telic or desert storm campaigns? i'd say it was a hell of a lot less than your lot so i'd keep schtum if i was you u moaning *&@%
