My 13 year old son has the most dry skin ever. Ever since winter came around I felt that his entire body is almost like sand paper.
I always see him itch it and everything. I went to a dermontologist and she said he just needs to be using lotion every day on his body after he takes his shower/bath.

I just got a new Nivea Dry skin lotion, which is very thick for him. I told him he needs to apply it every day after his shower. I come in after and I apply it on his back where he cant reach.

I found out he is not even using the lotion, the bottle is still full, but his back is doing better, from when I do it, I told him many times, but he never uses it. This is what I did so far.

-I showed him pictures of people with bad bad dry skin.

-I told him that girls hate guys who have dry skin-

-I asked him if he wants to pick his own lotion from the store.

And then one day, I caught him squrting the lotion in the toilet.. Please tell me what I should do!

If he knows how important this is to you that he take care of himself, then all you can do is punish him. Tell him to use the Nivea or you will make him use a nice scented one that smells like flowers from bath & body works. Tell him you will even put the girly scent on him before school if he can't compromise and use the Nivea. Best of luck to you!

I accept as true with the previous poster who mentioned to describe that firefighters, and different adult males positioned on creams. yet greater importantly, that's a wellbeing undertaking, and as a result, after his bath, have him positioned on his undies and then lotion up his hands, legs, ft and chest for him. you're his mom, and there is not any longer something irrelevant with you doing so. could you rub Vicks Vapor Rub on his chest if right here have been very ill? of course you're able to, so there could desire to be no longer something incorrect with rubbing lotion on him. If the exterior keeps to get too dry, it motives cracks interior the exterior, which could depart micro organism and different risky germs into the cracks, which in turn could reason actual subject concerns for the baby. So that's terrific to go it off on the bypass by skill of utilising the lotion for him. and since the different man or woman mentioned, use that element to ask how college is, or how activities are going, and so on. and interior of five minutes the lotion is on, his pores and skin will experience greater powerful and existence would be great. And as that different poster mentioned, use moisturizing soaps. sturdy luck :-)

After you helped him applied the lotion on his back, wait until he applied the lotion to his entire body before you even let him get out of the washroom.

Another option is to ask his dad to help him apply the lotion for him, because at this age, he might feel a little embarrassed when you help him.

If the options mentioned above doesn't help, then you should wait until he falls asleep so you can help him apply the lotion to the rest of his body.

Just let it be, release the pressure. I do understand your care, but your son might feel you are pushing too hard. So, buy some good lotion (another brand), start using it for yourself, do not make any comments on this, and I am sure (kids are curious) it will work. Just be sure to buy an unisex scented brand.

Maybe its too thick for him. Try Cetaphil Lotion or letting him pick out his own lotion. If he still doesn't want to, leave him alone about it. He will either itch and go to it on his own,or he'll just itch. Everytime he scratches, just look at him and shake your head.

my daughter (10) is the same way! i snuck and put some on her while she was sleep and she woke up and said stop flipping me over lol! oh well grease your butt b4 you go to bed. even in the cold i tell her to use vaseline on her face. so if her eyes tear it wont dry and make it look like she didnt wash her face. oh and something is wrong with your son putting lotion in the toilet. what's wrong??? this remind me of the lady complaining that her child wouldn't bathe. it's being lazy and also he might be hot after bathing. (that is what my daughter says)

You should punish him if he doesn't put it on. Tell him its mandatory, or his skin will start peeling off like a snake. Or just take away the thing he holds dear to him (video games, cell phone, tv, computer, etc....) Trust me it will work. I know because my mom did this to me.

Try another kind of lotion. Maybe one that's unscented.
