Why is it every time you turn on the TV there is a cop show or a murder mystery, yet knowone actually likes cops or murders?
Is it cool to be a cop? is it cool to kill people? so why the hype?

people are interested in watching other people get in trouble, they like the excitement and would rather watch it on tv than experience first-hand.

no one likes cop shows? no one YOU know likes cop shows. Marketing 101, idiot, if no one watched cop shows, there wouldn't be any because advertising budgets only back those shows that people like. Stick to Barney and Sesame street, life is always good there, no bad murders or cops to watch

Police work is interesting (for people watching it) they don't want to know about the common police calls where the police show up, and the domestic disturbance turns on them, thats what most police work is, nasty people who just want to fight, people that are a pain in the @ss and must be removed forceably, people yelling nasty things at you when you are trying to do your job, I don't hate the police, when I was younger I did, now I realize that they are just people part of the population, some are nice guys, some are complete jerks !

I love the real job, and think the shows are so far out of reality that I can't stand to watch them.
Maybe that is why the general population has no idea what cops really do and what the job is really like. Thanks Big Networks, you are great at rotting our brains.

I love cop shows! It is so much fun for me to sit there and pick out procedural errors, bad gun handling, forensic science that simply does not work that way or as fast, and impossible crimes.
