Hi everyone! I've been having a really hard time trying to come up with a date to get married. My fiance and I got engaged in October 2006, and I want at least a year to plan the wedding. The problem is that, currently I'm in college (2 years to go), and I know that he and I will be paying for this wedding ourselves. I want to set enough time to save the money myself without having to go in debt. Anyway, right now there are two options I'm debating on. The first one is April 2008, where I'll only have one more year of college left to pay for after that. The other option is October 2009, where I'll be completely done with my college degree. I'm not exactly sure which one I prefer...they both seem so long away! And my fiance says it's up to me, and that he wants me to have the wedding I want and when I want it. Any advice on when I should have it...April 2008 or Oct 2009?

i have the same dilemma!!! only i have 3 years left not 2
we're getting married our junior year, in june. that way we don't have a freakishly long engagement to the point people forget we're engaged , and i have plenty of time to change my mind about what i want my dress to look like!! first question, what is your favorite season? if it's spring, go with april, or fall go with october. he should ty to be a little more helpful; it is his wedding too, ask him which he'd prefer, and tell him to be honest!! then if it's the same, great if not, compromise! ask for his input!! and, the wedding won't pu you in debt half as much as college does!!! trust me!! you can plan a nice wedding for around or under 10, 000 dollars if you know where to look and don't mind hunting aorund.. this website is really helpful hints for saving money. i haven't tried any yet, since we haven't decided on a location or photograper, but it will be immensely helpful wehn we get to it!!! http://www.fireyourweddingplanner.com good luck!!

Not sure, its your call ultimately. But remember, there are chances that you will not pass a class and have to wait an extra semester. If I were you I would wait until your last semester of college and take out a college loan. You can get married on that and you will have 6 months to wait before payments begin. By then you should have a job. It would also help in getting an apartment or paying for a nice honeymoon.

One thing you should consider.....what are you getting your degree in? If you are doing something where you need a professional license (teaching, nursing, pharmacy, doctor, etc) it is easier to be married BEFORE the license is issued, as it is a bigger hassle to change it after it's been given. If that is the case, I'd say go with April 2008. Other than that, I have no advice. Whenever you have it it will be perfect for you (despite the stress going in!). Good luck and congratulations

First thing you need to do is figure out your funds. What i tell my boys, i have one one in college to wait till he is out...With studies and planning a wedding, girl let me tell you you will be out of your mind...Pick a date that both of you agree on...Also know that fall is now the popular season to get married. You could do it in April 2009, this gives you plenty of time...I don't know where you live, but you also have to figure some venues book one to a year and a half ahead of time...

October of 2009 sweetie, as you do not want to start your married life off not being able to afford anything. October is a good month for you as it is the same month you got engaged. Congratulations.

Dont rush it. If Oct 2009 works out better financially Id just wait. Its better to start the marriage with the least amount of debts...just makes less things to get stressed out on. Its whatever works good for you...but if waiting isnt an issue I think Id just wait.

wait till october 2009, you'll be good and ready and by then I'm sure you'd have plenty of time to save money and plan out every last detail. dont rush yourself, you need to get into the marriage at a time that is best for YOU, not anyone else. give yourself lots of time to save money, and who knows, you might be doing yourself a favour by postponing it!
God bless.

If you want to get marrried sooner you could always have a smaller wedding, with just a cake & punch reception. My fiance and I were planning to wed in April '08 but I just got impatient.

I would go with October... That way you will be done with school and not have the stress of attempting to juggling all of that. Also, I think that fall colors are so beautiful...There is a lot you can do with a fall wedding!

Going through the same thing girl. We are waiting until I graduate and it feels like it is taking forever. But plus side it makes me work harder at school. AND the most important thing to us is that we will both be working after I graduate, instead of marrying while still and school and him having to be the ONLY provider for us. I would say do it when you want to and when you will be able to. It stinks bad to have to wait but it's all going to be worth it!!!
