I say why not. An arms race between China/Russia vs. United States of America has now begun. The Chinese have proven the capibility to shoot down satellites. Now the race is on to weaponise space and arm satellites to shoot incoming missiles. Just like the Cold War, the U.S. will come out victorious.

For the guys who says that the U.S. got the most advanced weapons that can beat any other country, don't be too confident about it. The Chinese and the Russians had seen how these new weapons in the U.S arsenal were used during the Gulf War and during the Iraq invasion. Who knows, the Chinese and the Russians might have been developing similar weapons in secret?. Even the CIA and NSA don't have the slightest clue of what's been going on in these countries' weapons development programs. The event in the past few days is one example. The U.S. for all the time thought that Chinese missile technology is very inferior. The U.S. had spent billions of dollars in research to have space-based weapons that could hit any target on earth. Then suddenly, the U.S. became awe-struck when the Chinese used a missile to knock-off one of their aging satellites. Nobody could believe their eyes that the Chinese had done it. The event sent a lot of jitters to the Pentagon. Now those billions of dollars spent on research have gone to waste, as it is now obvious that space-based weapons aren't immune from attack.
The Chinese had never been at war nor engaged militarily, so nobody really know their weapons capability. So never assume that China is ages behind on weapons technology. Otherwise, you'll be caught by surprise again next time. Who knows, those UFO sightings in the U.S. might actually be Chinese spy planes?.

the person above me must have some type of retardation. what do you mean we cant beat one little country in the middle east? that county's military was disposed of in a matter of months. all we're fighting now are civilians with guns. the only reason it's taking long is because it is hard to distinguish a civilian from a civilian with a bomb strapped under his shirt. china's military is stuck in the 1950s, they have no blue water navy (cant invade a country overseas), intracontinetal nuclear warheads (cant send one to US), they have 1/14th military budget we do, they brag about a plane they made similar to the US F-16 of 1979. they brag about being able to shoot down a satellite when the US has held that capability for years. in 2040, 450 million chinese will be over 60. they'll be worthless. do some reading and you'll see how unrealistic a chinese invasion is. and no... space should not be militarized. when the planet is destroyed, lets leave our hate there.

So close...thanks for the response...the stupid guy who talked about chinese invasion is on crack or cocaine...he needs to be brought to the light. The usa airforce has satelites that survey satelites...that means if an enemy satelite becomes hostile to usa they can free it...space is already being militarised.
China is dealing on piracy...they are just getting make fighter jets with stolen techonoly? how about bombers ? men think again.
The only problem america has is too much freedom. There is no military in the world than can fight the usa. You cant fight a war if you are hungry..China is still trying to feed their nation.

The Russians have fried satellites, the Americans have fried satellites and now the Chinese have joined the club. Perhaps the Indians will follow.
But lets not encourage them.
and I would not be so sure of whom will win the next cold war.

That's a good question! I believe this might lead to destruction of precious discoveries that have been done and would also lead to more acts of terrorism and eventually the destruction of mankind!
Don't we have enough violence right now on earth without weaponnizing space?
