Attrition through deportation stimulating self deportation is proven to be possible, and it would save more money than it would spend. They are out of different pockets, but we could deal with that on an accounting function.
There may be other arguments but the 'impossibility' one is ridiculous. It has been done before.

Patois, you make a lot of sense but the Mexican workers benefit from the situation, overall, if their kids get our education and services because those are things that aren't 'free' in Mexico. I can only see the US and Canada uniting on this one, really.
Well, and maybe the MIDDLE CLASS of Mexico, but I think that is pretty small.

Because bush is trying to play god, deporting the aliens out of america isnt enough, he want to change a whole damn country into a mini america. I see this war coming out like vietnam. Same thing just a diffrent date. I think that if we took all the money that is literally given to aliens and spent it on deporting them, then built a miniture great wall of china across the border, then in one year the wall would pay for itself.

This issue is all about jobs and how the middle classes in the United States, Mexico and Canada are being set up for economic disadvantage. And, this issue remains a racist issue as long as the U.S. businesses and employers who criminally invite and hire undocumented foreign nationals are not arrested, prosecuted and fined for their role in severely destabilizing U.S. communities, and only "brown" people take the heat. It remains an issue of stupidity as long as people blame Mexicans for the problem when N.A.F.T.A, an economic trade agreement between the U.S., Canada and Mexico continues to cause hardship to the working classes in all three nations, especially in Mexico where N.A.F.T.A has already caused a 20% increase in unemployment. It remains an issue of stupidity as long as racists and fearful people blame Mexicans for taking away American jobs all the while U.S. businesses and owners are actually responsible for taking jobs away from Americans by hiring undocumented foreign nationals simply because they don't want to pay Americans a decent wage. While racists and fearful, ignorant people were blaming Mexicans for the problem, President Bush was in Viet Nam arranging to give away thousands and thousands of American jobs, "outsourcing", so that his good Republican/Conservative buds back here who own businesses won't have to pay Americans a fair wage. It remains an issue of pathetic ignorance as long as people actually believe building a fence, of all nonsense, is the way to solve these problems, all the while Bush a few weeks ago signed a new dramatic political addition to N.A.F.T.A. that will ELIMINATE all borders between Mexico and the U.S. and Canada. It remains an issue of irresponsible ignorance to not be informed of what is actually going on, because the problems are going to continue to devastate the working class and their communities in all three nations, and, blaming Mexicans is, well, stupid. The working class in all three nations of N.A.F.T.A. have been duped and used and distracted from the true culprits and issues. Only the dregs of humanity take their stupidity and fear out on the poor guy lower on the ladder than they are, who blame people because of the color of their skin or their culture or which side of a stupid river they live on. Either we treat ALL humans decently or we are mad. Unless the working class peoples in all three lands wake up, grow up and unite REALLY soon instead of fighting each other, we are not ever going to have the clout to stand up for a decent wage ever again in our lifetimes.

Mass deportation worked before, and it would work again.Start the deportation on a large scale, like Eisenhower did,and see how many of them leave on their own.People assume we would have to manually deport each and every one of them, which wouldn't be the case.A good number would leave to avoid being caught.

For one thing it's impossible because deporting them after they've been caught coming here illegally doesn't stop them from trying again and again.

It is impossible, but it has little to do with power and technology. Instead, you must look at logistics.
First, you must look at the need for the mission: In Iraq and Afghanistan, we are fighting a force that is attempting to kill masses of Americans with bombs, missiles, and anything else they can get their hands on. The majority of illegal immigrants are not trying to kill us. Amongst those immigrants who are committing crimes, the majority of those are not killing anyone. None of them are flying aircraft into high-rises.
When it comes to securing the border and preventing further illegal immigration, I agree with you there and I do not understand why more is not being done to handle this.
As for deportation, three steps are required for deportation. Each of them has a problem.
1. The goverment would have to DETECT the illegal immigrants.
This detection phase would involve investigations. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) cannot simply go around kicking down the doors of US citizens' homes and businesses. They must have evidence of illegal immigrant presence. Now figure the sheer amount of illegals there are to detect. Some would be easy to find, estimated at 12 million. Most would not be, especially if they all knew ICE is coming after every last one. They'd go into hiding even more than they do now and become more difficult to apprehend. At present time, we do not have the manpower necessary to investigate and raid all suspected locations. To mount an effective detection campaign, ICE would have to grow considerably otherwise we will never get near deporting everyone.
2. Immigrants must be DETAINED after they are detected and caputured.
We cannot have buses rounding up immigrants and immediately driving them to the border. For starters, many immigrants did not come from Mexico, and Mexico will not accept them. Illegal immigrants captured must be detained somewhere. This requires bedspace and guards to keep the jails secure. At present time we can barely incarcerate US citizens who commit cimes, and I believe that number is under 1 million people. Try adding 12 million to that. Now factor in that you need at least one guard for roughly ever 50-80 inmates.
There's another issue here: Immigration court! Immigrants are afforded their chance to tell the court why they should not be deported. Now the law can be adjusted to streamline this, but you will still have a mass movement toward people applying for visas based on family already here in the US with legal permanant resident status or citizenship. Employers will be trying to keep their workers here. There's many more reasons to hear cases one-by-one. So now we have to pay for the additional court hearings. (This means judges, bailiffs, attorneys, etc.)
By the way, if you think we are paying for immigrant medical care now, remember that Supreme Court decisions mandate that the government take care of healthcare for it's detainees. What was previously just true emergency treatment will become much more than that. $$$!
3. DEPORTATION
How much are gas prices these days? Have you struggled to pay for gas lately? Try filling up huge buses and planes full of gas to run 24/7 to and from other countries Nevermind the extra guards you will need to make sure no one escapes.
Not all inmates came from Mexico. They must be somehow taken to their home countries. Our State Department must convince these countries to accept their people back. In this world, as stupid as it sounds, it doesn't always work that way. Some people simply cannot be deported! What then? (No, we cannot force a country to take someone.)
Where are we going to find QUALIFIED, COMPETENT people to serve in the thousands of newly created immigration officer positions needed for deporting millions? Society already demands so much from new officers and departments have a hard time filling current openings.
There is another consideration here, one I think that is ignored by many. Pretend we send 12 million people back to Mexico. These 12 million people are no longer sending money into Mexico from the United States. What's more, not only will Mexico be losing out on money sent back, it'll have 12 million people unemployed. This will screw up Mexico's economy worse than the Great Depression. This will affect our economy as well since we know the economy is a global economy in many senses and Mexico is right next to us.
There are so many other factors I can do into, but this should cover things for now. I should disclose that I am a US citizen and my beautiful, intelligent wife happens to be an illegal immigrant. I lean conservative politically, and I believe in securing the border and accountability on the border. The question becomes what to do with those already here.
