About the people in Halifax, what's it like to live there, is it a good start for someone who wants to study Film Directing? It wouldn't hurt to compare it to VICTORIA (where I'm living in at the moment)...

There are lots of great things about Haifax. It has a Neptune Theatre, a symphony, a lively music scene. The people in Halifax are great - friendly, welcoming, down to earth. Go the the site of the weekly independent newspaper The Coast to get a feel for the vibe. http://www.thecoast.ca/1homebody.lasso

There are three universities in Halifax, plus the NS School of Art & Design and between them they offer a Minor in Film Studies program - http://www.registrar.dal.ca/CALENDAR/ug/FILM.htm - but there is no actual film school, so I don't know if it's going to be the best place to study film directing. A few years back, Halifax was attracting a lot of movies and tv shows - 22 Minutes is still filmed here. A large sound stage was built here. Things have slowed down a bit since - I think the huge move to make U.S. films in Canada has slowed a bit, in general.

Sorry, can't compare to Victoria - I've never been there.

Good luck!

I've lived in both and from Halifax originally. Halifax has a lot in common culturally with Victoria and in looks with lots of parks, trees and history. With the University's and colleges, the night life is a lot of fun in the downtown area. The people are very warm, friendly and outgoing. Also a lot cheaper to live than Victoria if you are a student :^) The winters are a little colder and a lot more snow (well usually, except for this winter).

Wow, film directing in Halifax... not the largest job market they have there... you do like a challenge hmmm? My last girlfriend lived there... she's now in Seattle. She was there for college, and then a job... but from what she's mentioned it was too small to have much going on socially. From the many movies I've read about and seen, the area you are in is much better for all the Hollywood types to choose for most of the Canadian filming. You are better off on the west coast I bet.

I loved Victoria when I was there in the early 90's, beautiful in the spring. Is the Wyland still up? I remember the blossoming trees, the Wyland, the area around the museum, and the harbor.

i've got lived in the two and from Halifax initially. Halifax has a lot in trouble-free culturally with Victoria and in seems with various of parks, timber and historic previous. With the college's and faculties, the night existence is a number of exciting interior the downtown section. the actually everyone seems to be very heat, friendly and outgoing. additionally a lot greater value-effective to stay than Victoria once you're a student :^) The winters are somewhat chillier and a lot greater snow (properly in many situations, different than for this wintry climate).
