My grandmother has threatened to "disown" me if I don't change the name that I've chosen for my little girl, who will be here in a few weeks? She says its not appropriate! I know that ultimately its my decision, but I don't want this added stress right now! How can I convince her not to be personally offended?

I'm going to name her Aurora Denise ... and she thinks its inappropriate because Aurora is the goddess of the dawn in mythology and my grandma is VERY christian.

For those who didn't read it all she did give the name and why the grandmother was mad.
(I'm going to name her Aurora Denise ... and she thinks its inappropriate because Aurora is the goddess of the dawn in mythology and my grandma is VERY christian.)
And even if she says she will disown you she will eventually have to give in because she will want to see her great grand baby. It's a beautiful name.

Yes, knowing the name would help...I am thinking that Grandma must have some pretty serious religous beliefs or something.
Beleive me...as long as you are not naming it something right off the wall...offensive etc...she will come around. What old lady can resisit a baby...much less a great-grandbaby. it will be fine. Maybe in a polite way ask her who approved the names of her children??
But be respectful and polite.

Do you respect her intelligence enough to let her opinion of the name change what you do? If she's the one you rely on for good advice, then take it. You are not objective on this issue, and haven't filled us in enough to let us make a good opinion based on the family's names, why you've chosen the babies name, what you've chosen for the name, why your g-ma is so radically ticked off...

Polytheists used certain names, some monotheists carried on using many of these names (including as names for their children). The names your grandmother chose, if you trace back far enough, could easily have non-monotheistic origins. Did she bother to rename the planets?!

Piss.. it replaced into in some gay porn video.. i don't understand the way urinating is sexually arousing. final time I checked, urination did no longer carry approximately reproductive urges. haha Or i need to be relatively nerdy and say it relatively is loopy that a looong time in the past prokaryotic cells swallowed mitochondria and chloroplasts to grow to be the undemanding eukaryotic cells all of us understand today, yet, yeah. XD

Name her what you want, when she see's the baby she will forget everything. She's lucky to even get to see a great granddaughter. Now if she's taking you out of a big huge will, let her name her and get all grandma's money.

WHAT'S THE NAME???? If it's a perfectly normal name, just ignore grandma and name your child what you want to. But if your last name is Butts and you want to call your little girl Rosey, I could understand why grandma may be upset. Give us more information.

If I were you, I would change the name. Because I dont want to start an argument. But if you really like the name so much, you may want to ask her why she thinks that the name is not appropriate. Or maybe you can explain to her why you like the name so much....

Just tell her: 'sorry, you feel that way; however, I picked this name 'cause I love it, and I wish you'd understand!
If she 'disowns' you because of that and you give in, trust me, she'll come up every possible moment to threaten you again with it. This way, she'll either do it or not, but you won't have to worry about it anymore!!!

Unless the name you have chosen is vulgar, defamatory or offensive in some way I would tell her to mind her own business. After all,It is YOUR child NOT hers.Good luck with the visit.
