A language known as Classical is one typically used in what is known as the Classical period. This period generally covers a time period starting with the Bronze age and ending with the decomposition of the Roman Empire. The two most famous Classical languages are Classical Greek and Latin; however, many others like Hebrew and Sanskrit flourished during this era. The role of a classical language in today's world is debatable, but I feel it is necessary and important to keep studies alive--what would we have done with the Dead Sea Scrolls? Where would literature be without Chapman's and Pope's translations of Homer? Virgil's "Aeneid" would not be read today; the Old Testament, and many others.

There are more modern languages called classical - like classical Arabic.

I think generally it is a language that a lot of books have been written in so it has become standardised, and then the actual spoken form has changed.

At the moment our written english is fairly close to our spoken english. But if we keep teaching correct written english and at the same time our different dialects keep evolving and changing, we might find that we write english very differently to how we speak it. I think we would then call the written (old fashioned) form classical english.

As for Role: in Arabic there are so many dialects that they have trouble understanding each other, but they all study the same classical arabic so they use that to communicate together.

No. Seeing whats taking place now in China and India, and the combat for global energy, The 2 MUST grasp the English language to be able to be positive in all locations and to protection relationships with different governments. And so, because of the value and what kind of the federal government desires this, indian language will slowly die out, and so would different languages. English is already an global language, and would possibly fairly very quickly be the one language.

The roll of any classical language is the snowflake roll, similar to the hamburger bun but smaller with flour garnish on top. It goes well with both hot and cold sandwiches.
