Moving to Atlanta from Los Angeles. I have rented a loft downtown within walking distance from work. I don't like the idea of renting very long so I'm going to be looking for a house. I need some suggestions for neighboorhoods that offer good housing, good restaurants and variety of places for shopping. If you're answering please live, or have lived in the Atlanta Metro are.

I'm hoping to keep it within 30 miles of downtown. Please don't tell me how bad the traffic is, I live in LA right now, I know what bad traffic is.

Depending on where you want to live and where you want to work! I prefer to live in Gwinnett County because I am about 30 minutes away from downtown Atlanta, taxes are cheaper up here on a house and it's quiet. You can live near Gwinnett Place Mall or Mall of Georgia. If you need any assistance please do not hesitate to contact me, as I am a loan officer and I have a great agent that work with, that could even possibly get you a lease purchase instead of a place to rent and never buy it :)

A good place to live depends on many factors. One major factor in Atlanta is traffic. I would recommend starting your home search close to where you work. The average commute is about an hour each way for people who work in the city and live in the 'burbs. Here's another thought: If you are going to be working in the suburbs, you could look for a place inside 285 and not have a terrible commute because you'd be going against the flow of traffic. Another major factor is lifestyle. If you are both young and into going out, then the outer suburbs are not a very good choice for you. A better choice would be someplace like Vinings or Decatur (where I live). On the other hand, if you're into quiet evenings at home, then Alpharetta/Milton, Johns Creek/Suwanee, or Marietta might be good options. A third major factor will be whether you're buying a place to live, or renting. If you're buying, make sure to find a good realtor who really listens to you talk about what your lifestyle is. He or she can also provide valuable advice on neighborhoods and should be able to give you good estimates of what your commute would be like.

The most important thing is to live close to your job because you do not want to fight the traffic......I live in Sandy Springs which is next to buckhead those my be the best places for you or somewhere off of I-20, homes are a little cheaper out there.
