I told a man I wasn't ready to date after ending a long relationship. I said I liked him and asked him to come visit me when he got to town.

When he came, after flirting he asked if I used a vibrator to release sexual tension. I said no, there are other ways. Then he asked if I slept with my ex. I said no.

We talked about fwb. I told him I really wanted to but was afraid because I hadn't been with anyone for a long time. I knew he was in town only one night and asked him if he could "be patient with me and take it slow". He said yes, then said I'll call you this weekend.

Suprised I said I meant tonight. He said "I don't think it's a good idea to see each other tonight". I asked what he thought I meant and he said "being friends first".

He did call. He talks about ways we could fly to see each other but I am confused by his rejection.

your giving him a red light, then a green light sounds like your confusing him

He did not reject you. He feels that maybe he took it too fast with you and now has to switch gears. He basically wants to make sure that you both are completely ready for it. It means that he wants to have a more personal relationship, not just a physical one. If you are really fine with it then make sure you let him know but also be friends with him.

My opinion, is that all he wanted from you was getting into your bed which may have ended up in a great relationship but then might not. I wouldn't dwell on him much but move onto greener pastures where you can find a great guy who wants to be with you whether you "put out or not".

You just got out of a long relationship. You gold him you were scared to do something. You shouldn't be having sex anyways because you are not married (I'm a tad oldfashioned). Find someone who will not try to sleep w/ you before putting that ring on your deserving finger.

He likes and respects you a lot. Don't feel bad, he may want things to go the right way...or he may be gay. Who knows...

(what is fwb?)
