Here's what auditing is:

If you're being audited, you have an auditor (they do the auditing) and you have an "e-meter" (electro-psychometer). You hold onto to tin cans which are connected to the "e-meter" and you tell the person auditing you all about the bad things you're feeling. The "e-meter" measures your electrical output when you answer and the fluctuations of the measurements cause a small needle on the machine to bounce around. The person auditing you is supposed to interpret the bounces of this needle in order to determine if you're properly "clearing" yourself of your negative emotions.

There are several problems with the e-meter. The E-meter has no device to control the constancy of current. The instrument is subject to polarization. It is not a quantitative instrument due to uncontrollable variations in skin contact and current. The machine does NOT even detect whether or not a human is using it - it registers "definite emotional anxiety reactions" while hooked up to a tomato.

It was ordered by a judge that the e-meter be labeled with this warning:

"The E-Meter is not medically or scientifically useful for the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of any disease. It is not medically or scientifically capable of improving the health or bodily functions of anyone."

Auditing is also exorbitantly expensive. Auditing is purchased in 12½ hour blocks, costing anywhere from $750 for introductory sessions to between $8,000 and $9,000 for advanced sessions.

Auditing in Scientology means: the application of exact Scientology processes and procedures to someone, by a trained auditor. An auditor in Scientology is defined as: one who listens,a Scientology practitoner or minister who has been trained in the technology of Scientology.Communication is a fundemental part of auditing. There is a strict code that all auditors follow. An auditor never invalidates or evaluates answers to his questions.
Auditing gets rid of unwanted barriers that inhibit, stop or blunt a person's natural abilities. It also gradiently increases these natural abilities so that the person's survival, happiness and intelligence increase. The E Meter, when used in auditing, is simply a tool that guides the auditor to specific areas of stress and also confirms the release or absence of stress in a specfic area. This helps to locate areas of stress slightly below the conscious awareness that are affecting the person. The process is then done on this area, so it is very exact.
Not all auditing procedures require the use of an E Meter.

It's involves a phony-baloney cult version of a lie detector hooked up to the victim. 5. The Spirit creates his own emotions. Are you happy? Are you sad? Are you depress? Maybe you think that something external of you is creating your emotions. Psychiatry have never proven that any "mental illnesses" (like they call it) has any connection with a physical illness. Happiness, exhilaration, depression and psychosis are states of mind, not diseases. All what you have to do to stop being depress is change your state of mind. How you do that? By changing your ideas and considerations. Scientology provides the tools to achieve a better state of mind in accordance with your own point of view.
Also Psychiatrist excuse the most horrendous crimes as mental illnesses. 10. Scientology is the only church that doesn't ask for donations from their parishioners during their Sunday Services. All chapel services are 100% free (marriages, naming ceremonies, ect). Scientology earns it's money by delivering courses and auditing. Courses and auditing are optional. You do not need to take courses and auditing to be in Scientology. All you need to do to be a Scientologist is to read the books and apply Scientology to your life (like I do). But if you want auditing there are many alternative and economical ways to achieve this.
a. You can do volunteer work in your local church and get your services for free.
b. You can study to be an auditor and perform all your auditing with a fellow student. This way you can also provide free services to your friends and family. This is actually the preferred way to become clear because you learn how to help others. Scientology isn't about you going clear but taking responsibility across all your dynamics (self, family, group, humanity, life, ect).

11. Scientology and aliens. The story of Xenu is just a fable like the story of "Jonah in the Whale" in the bible. Fables are not intended to be taken seriously. The story of Xenu doesn't have any significance on Scientology beliefs.
