After every hand the dealer chip, known as the button, is moved clockwise to the next player.

The reason this happens is to simulate each person taking turns to deal. In the game of Texas Hold'em (most likely what you are watching) there is a distinct advantage of being 'on the button.' The next two players to your left are forced to place a bet before the hand begins (known as blinds) and being on the button allows you to see what everyone else does with their hand before it is your turn. This means you have a lot of information which is valuable to a good player.

After the first set of community cards are dealt (the flop), the person still in the hand to the left of the dealer button must act first (check or bet). Again being on the button has a distinct advantage because that person sees all the action before they have to do something. This same advantage also happens on the turn and river.

If the button always stayed in the same place, one player at the table would have a distinct advantage for the entire game. By rotating the button around the table, each player gets a turn at being in the most advantageous position on the table.

When the dealer button is in front of youi, this is called "being on the button". It is the best position at the table, because everyone has to act before you do. After each hand, the dealer button passes to the left.

goes around the table..but the dealer is always the dealer... Just the order in which he deals the cards... That is why there is a dealer chip..to know who to serve first.

It is called the button and it moves around the table every hand. The button determines where the cards are dealt and the order people bet in, in hold em your position is key and being on the button is the best position is the strongest.
