I can only answer for myself... I use to be an athiest and did not believe there was a "higher" being.... God showed me that I was wrong by something which happened in my life - and I mean spiritually here - after that - I then decided to believe in God.....
It's called faith - and you personaly are the one which has to decide to believe or not - unless of course, God smacks you upside our head somehow and makes you believe -as happened to me - then you would be stupid not to!
Believe what you desire to - yet what we humanes need to learn is to accept that everyone has the right to view this subject as they so desire to...Instead of making fun or rude remarks about others that see life differently

As I've said before, I think the matter of whether someone believes in God or not simply comes down to how a person interprets the evidence. So I do think it could be because of personal traits to some extent--just how you see the world, how you've learned to think.

In a lot of instances that is true. Now take my parents the last thing they are is religious I don't even think they have a particular belief and here I am a Muslim that believes very strongly in her belief. I guess different strokes for different folks.

A belief in god cannot withstand logical scrutiny. Most people have neither the time nor the intellectual horsepower to do a thorough analysis, but all can read the conclusions of Richard Dawkins, who has both.

i'm a guy or woman of religion. i've got faith in God and the sacrifice of Jesus for the sins of guy. yet i don't have "faith"...I gave up on prepared faith a protracted, long term in the past. i individually don't think a guy or woman desires faith to validate their faith in God.

Most people are religious because their parents were, or because religion is important in their society.

My guess is people need to appear "holier-than-thou" and validate their existence.
