me and my friend Jasmine secretely decided to go on a double date with our boyfriends out to dinner on valentine's day. We planned that we were going to surprise them by going to a really nice retaurant on top of the space needle. I told my boyfriend that we're gonna surprise him and he got totally upset, telling me that it was his job as the guy to pay and telling me that he wanted to pay. I told him that i really really wanted to pay for it, and it would mean a lot to me if he let me pay. He insists on paying no matter what.
Its a really expensive retaurant and i don't want to plan where we're going and then expect him to pay, plus the fact that i WANT to pay for it.
he says he's fine with me paying for another date sometime, but he says that on valentine's day its different and the guy has to pay. I really wanna pay because it was my choice for where we go.
so what do i do?

He sounds like a sexist jerk, and he should appreciate you taking him out.
but since that doesn't answer your question, I'd either try to convince him to let you pay, telling him that he can take you on another date and pay for it, but that it'd mean a lot for you to pay this time.

dont worry is a guy thing. it just hurts his pride. we have been taught that men pay and women enjoy. he just wants to be a good boyfriend and he doesnt want to appear cheap or less of a man in front of you. so talk to him and let him know that u want to do something special for him and it wont make you feel differently towards him or his manlyhood, because that is the one thing that if hurt, it cant be healed.
