You put up a simple picture of yourself on ur website or whatever, (myspace, facebook..etc) and a friend commented saying stuff like "you sure work magic with photoshop!"

when you used no photo-altering programs at all.

My initial thought was YES, how rude! But on second thought, I think you ought to bring this up with them before you get mad. It's possible they weren't talking about you. Maybe they saw something in the background of the picture that didn't look realistic, or they thought the colors were really bright and you must've altered them.

It would depend on the situation. Yes, it can be insulting to some and/or under certain circumstances. Truth to the fact is, however, so many people nowadays doctor online photos with photoshop or other programs, it is now almost expected. Hence the "guilty" party here may literally not know the photo was unaltered(especially if the photo in question was exceptionally good). If that is the case, you can simply say, "Actually, it didn't need any doctoring!" and add something cheerful like a smiley-face icon to ensure your response is taken the correct way.

No. I would not be insulted at all. I would be flattered, that I look so lovely that my photo was thought to be help out by photoshop. Say thank you to your friend while mentioning that you don't even know how to work photoshop, they will get the hint.

Can't you tell how it's meant? I have friends who make jokes like that and while it isn't everyone's type of humor, if it's meant in jest it's fine. On the other hand it could also be a nasty barb meant to tell you you're looking pretty bad or have bad skin or usually don't take care of yourself. So it just depends on the context/way it was said.

Yes!!! It's quite apparent that is a metaphor to suggest you are not attractive. I wouldn't speak to this person anymore. Friendship and honesty is one thing, but blatantly disrespecting you for NO reason is another.

if someone says things like that they r not really a friend and r usually insecure in themselves they also tend to be jealous people and need to put others down to feel better about themselves

Not really! You can take it as a compliment. You know you used no photoshop. You must photograph very well.
