Does anyone else feel really sh--ty about this whole war? I feel almost like it's a sick way of having some kind of population control. I just read that 20 american soliders died today. the third deadlist day since all this started.I am just waiting to see if it's anyone I know. It gives me a pit in my stomach. Why are we sending more troops? Is there not enough room for them here? A lot of why is on my mind.

War is a form of population control, of course; the nastiest one I can think of. But it's not done FOR population control, in the sense of just to reduce numbers. It may be considered "population" control in the sense of forcing a lot of unpleasant circumstances on the population, but that is not the reason, either. The reason is normally because two or more power-trippers decide they cannot accommodate one another at the bargaining table, and diplomacy fails.

Still, war does control population; this is true. It just seems like there ought to be a better way. We Baby Boomers have been telling people for many years to make love, not war. But then that's how the Baby Boomers came into existence in the first place: our fathers came home from WWII eager to make love. Nine months later, the first wave of babies crashed upon these shores! Perhaps a little more restraint or a few more condoms might have been a better and gentler population control.

Think about it: the Baby Boom period runs from the end of World War Two to the release of the birth control pill. While I do not believe we are sending troops off because we have too many healthy young people, I admit I entertained the possibility during the Vietnam era, when all those "excess" Baby Boomers were the age to be drafted.

I do not believe we are sending troops into a war just because we have too many people. Nor are our troops dying in anything like the numbers the Iraqis are. The reason is not population control, it is politics.

okay say we pull out iraq becomes a land grab for iran and every nut bag with an ak-47 and a breeding ground for terrorists to train new recruits so that someday you might be sitting down to dinner and all of a sudden wham the building goes boom because of a terrorist trained in iraq
or if iran takes it say goodbye to israel well just be back in the middle east trying to holdiran back say hello to true casualties none of this one or two crap a day were talking hundreds a day

We can fight the war "over there" or "over here"...
American casualties are a lot less over there...
We don't have a choice about fighting the war...
