My 4 year old son absolutely refuses to poop in the potty. He will be 5 in June and he is still in training pants. We have tryed putting him on a schedule, taking away toys he really likes, sitting him on the toilet for long period of time, giving him fibers & juices to makes his poop softer. Ive tryed talking to him & asking him why he wont go and he wont give me a straight answer. His doctor suggested a strict schedule, that didnt work. Im starting to think it might be psychological, and that maybe I should take him to counseling. I dont know what to do, ive tryed almsot everything, we've been trying to potty train him for almost 2 years now, so any suggestions would be welcome.

My son is 4 now and he's finally to the point of just wearing his pull ups at night, but we got him to start pooping in the potty at about 3 years old. He would get to the point where he knew he had to go, but cartoons or toys were more important to him than running to the bathroom so we devised a consequence. We stripped him down naked and set him in the shower every time he pooped in his pants; and spayed his butt off with cold water. The desire to not get sprayed down with cold water again was enough to make him go straight to the bathroom after a few times!

Kids his age tend to fear the potty, if they've fallen in or they're afraid of being flushed down too. They also fear going #2 if they've had one hard one that was painful. They will hold it as long as they can because they're afraid it's always going to hurt. If you think that might be the case, try this: run him a warm bath with 2 ounces of baking soda in the tub. Give him some tub toys and let him play for up to 30 minutes in the tub. The warm water and baking soda will help him relax and go. If he goes in the tub, no worries - that's why there's bleach! =) More often than not - the kids don't even need the full 30 minutes - they often get out and go on their own. (moms of stubborn 2 year olds tell me this works like a charm!)

The trick that worked for my son was taking off all undergarments and letting him just wear his pants. The pullups and the brief underwear felt to much like a diaper. To this day I have to buy him boxer briefs at 4.5 becasue he doesnt like the feeling of brief style underwear. By doing this he was potty trained shortly after doing this and he fully trained himself to get up at night about age 4.

Maybe completely take his Pull Ups off. He won't poop on the floor, will he?

Both of my boys took FOREVER to potty train. That is kind of a "boy " thing.

Good luck.

Comman for boys heard it lots of times now.
Dont rush him it will come..
Mine ended up going to school in training pants it was ok but i think it helped to break his cycle.
But there is defently nothing wrong with your child its very comman.
