Probably not unless it explicitly states that it is Blu Ray AND regular DVD compatible. Regular DVDs use red laser while Blu ray uses (obviously) Blue laser. Player manufacturers are in the process of building backwards compatible Blu Ray players which can also play regular DVDs (for eg., Samsung BD-P1000 can).

You cannot play BD (Blu-Ray Disk) or it's competitor, HD DVD, on a DVD player but you can play DVDs on a BD player or on an HD DVD player. Both new formats can play high definition movies but are incompatible with each other. If you want to play BD movies then I suggest either a PlayStation 3 for price and features or the LG BH100 which is the only machine that will play both BD and HD DVD. Good Luck.

their are a few dual format blu ray dvd's and a few dual format hd dvd's out there but you need to look at the outside of the dvd box it should say dual format on it. if you are waiting to by the player till the price goes down this is the way to go since you still can play the discs on your regular dvd player..... but remember you need to look at the cover of the dvd case for it to say that it plays in both formats .......

Nope. Blu Ray is a new kind of DVD format. It's like asking if you can play DVD's in your CD drive....

Not as far as I'm aware. BluRay is a competitor for DVD's much like DVD's were competitors to Laser Discs.
