Which is better? I go to school and I have a tendency to procrastinate a lot. I'm trying to get rid of that habit but I'm not sure if it's best if I stay up as late as needed to get the work finished or wake up early tomorrow. It's bad to put things off but I've also heard it's bad to go to sleep late on a regular schedule...What do you recommend?

It depends if you are a morning person or not. I'm not a morning person, so staying up late to finish then go to sleep works for me. Plus, although I procrastinate, I also feel guilty not having completed my work, so if I don't finish before I go to sleep I have difficulty falling asleep (hence wasting more time).

Regardless if you choose to stay up late to do your work or wake up early in the morning, I believe the best thing to combat procrastination is to postpone things that you enjoy until the work gets finished. For example, I do not watch TV (you can tape the program) until I've completed my work. Or, if I've bought a new music CD or DVD, I don't listen/watch it until work is done. Or, I reward myself with something (maybe even a bowl of ice cream or a glass of wine) once work is done.

In other words, give yourself a reason to get the work done.

I get a better quality sleep when I go to bed at three am and wake up at eleven am than I do sleeping at ten pm and waking at six am. Something about knowing the world is carrying on while you snuggle is very relaxing. As far as the school work goes though, you can start that early in the evening and it is always better for your stress levels to give yourself a head start.

Get your homework done first thing when you get home then that will help elimianate the tendency to procrastinate. You need at least 8 hours of sleep. So if its a school night try not to stay up to late. Get your rest so you can be ready to face the next day at schoo!

I know for me that I am a night person. I wish my college classes started at 9pm at minght! My brain just seems to function better. In fact, in CA I think that they are testing to see if high school kids are able to focus better if school started later say at like 2pm. So I think it is a choice for you...whichever seems to work better. I don't think staying up too late is necessarily bad as long as you get adequate sleep (I'd say anywhere from 5-8 hours/day...depending on how much works for you). As long as you have enough time to do what you need to get done and learn to manage your time it doesn't matter what you choose! Best of luck!

i try to get in bed by 10 30 or 11 i wake up at 6 45 it works.. and im sorry that you procrastinate... i do too... i have a giant history project that i have to do by 31st and i have to start i try to avoid those
good luck and stay up late... when you wake up early you are most likely to avoid hw cuz ur too tired and arent fully awake

Staying up late is better......well for me,especially since I am an insomniac, so I stay up late and wake up early in the morning and it's fine. I am one of those people who never gets tired.

I'm not a morning person, there is no doubt that I would stay up late to accomplish something than to get up earlier to do it. I can't even begin to think straight in the mornings. I'm like a zombie. Nightime I can get things accomplished though.

i stay up late because i also procrastinate and i'm not a morning person. plus if you get up early and whatever it is going to take longer to finish than you thought, you might not be able to finish.

If you sleep early, you will be able to be awake and be active in the morning.
That beats, stay awake doing homework will keep you from getting fresh things to get in your mind in the morning.

And secondly, staying up awake for long will have negative effect on your health.

I drool in morning if I keep awake these days.

I do my best work at night! If I put it off to the early morning I will never get it done.
