How about an LBO instead? I think a better approach would be to just merge the two countries. Bring the current UK in as five new states (N.Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Midlands, South East), add some stars to the flag and call it a day. Besides, that would give Tony Blair (or eventually Gordon Brown) political cover to dump the Sterling but avoid the Euro (and the French!). While we're at it let's invite Canada and Australia too.

Lets get one thing straight. British soldiers are absolutely better than americans, our Parachute Regiment is as good as your special forces and our Marines are better than yours. We select only the best you select anyone under 300lbs, we have a hell of a lot more experience and are the best in close quarters combat ( Northern Ireland since 1969 )we fought a more recent conventional war ( falklands ) and we have the SAS and SBS who wouldnt waste their time getting rid of your Delta Force and Navy Seals and would leave them to our cadets.

Yeah right...real soldiers. When I was in the Marines we did a joint op in Egypt with a bunch of Brit army brats and all they did was whine and do things using tactics 30 years out of date.
