just do lots of reps with light weights. in order to bulk up you really have to bust your butt and lift heavy. muscle burns more calories than fat so it should help you lose weight quicker. pilates is excellent for reshaping.

It is very, very, very difficult for most women to "bulk up." It is very unlikely that you will bulk up. DEFINITELY you should be lifting weights, as it is the QUICKEST way to lose weight and develop a firm, shapely body. Do weights 3 x a week, 30-60 mins. Cardio on the other days. One day a week rest. No sugar, junk, bread, or pasta. Tons of veggies, low-fat protein, and small amts of healthy fats. Tons of water. That's the secret.

weights can help but are not the answer. Also how you exercise will affect how your muscles develop. If you do power lifting you will most likely build bulk muscle. If you do more repetitions, you will get a toned look. Diet is also important and should not be ignored in toning up.

Do cardio workouts like running or aerobics, avoid foods high in fat, and drink more water.

Concerning the fat/muscle thing: muscle is leaner than fat, but more dense, so if you do weights, then you may actually start to look leaner yet weigh the same as you did before you did weights. This is opposed to cardiovascular exercise, where you will look leaner and weigh less. It's your choice. Just remember to give yourself a break when you step on the scales :).

Sure you should life weights. Muscle burns fat, and lifting weights will help raise your metabolism. Just don't lift heavy weights, that will cause you to bulk up. You want to lift lighter weights at about 12 to 15 reps. This will cause your muscles to tone up not bulk up

weights will definitely bulk you up if you go crazy. If you want to lose weight eat right and run or jog... the weights will make you stronger and fat will turn to muscle but you would have to lift for months to see those kinds of results

1. in ur muscles u hav two types of cells, slow twitch and fast twitch. fast twitch are large cells and make ur muscles grow bigger, kinda like how a sprinter has lots of fast twitch cells and has large muscles.

slow twitch muscles are not as big or baulky and are better for endurance, unlike fast twitch which are for quick bursts of action like sprinting. Female ballet dancers and endurance runners have more slow twitch muscles and hence are not very baulky.

to gain more fast twitch muscle and so call 'baulk up' athletes do limited repetitions of very heavy weights and to gain slow twitch muscles is the opposite, using light weights with many repitions or doing excercises like walking or running over a long distance.

So i think that it would be alrite for you to do some weights as long as your not lifting very heavy weights or doing lots of sprinting, instead doing lots of walking and doing light weights with many repititions.

don't do anything without seeing ur doctor, u don't want to go and lift await and then have a heart attack and keel over.

gooduck!

You will be building muscle underneath your remaining fat, but it's a good idea to strength train along with cardio exercises when you're trying to lose a lot of weight. If you have a lot of body fat, that fat is just sitting on you when you're sitting in your chair. But if you have a lot of muscle, that muscle is actually burning fat while you're doing nothing - I mean, it's not enough so that you don't have to exercise, but it's enough to make an impact. And it is pretty hard for girls to "bulk up" without supplements or steroids; it's just not how we're built.

Lift only as much weight as you feel comfortable with.
Start light.
