Playing music is a lifestyle.

And, I saw Jethro Tull on the Thick as a Brick tour back in 1972!

It is not how long you play for, but it is what ou put into the amount of time you play. You can play for 2 years and be amazing or play for 15 years and be terrible. Its how much determination as a musician you have and how many GOOD practice hours you are going to put in to improve your skill.

There are those musically brilliant people who can play wonderfully in a heartbeat. Mozart was playing the piano at 3 years old. However, in lot those cases, they tend to lack some sort of life functionality in some other areas.

For the rest of us, it takes years of practice.

It depends on how you define "good." Your goal should be to always get better. There really is no end to how good you can get. Most professional symphony players have at least a masters degree and they still have to practice everyday!

It's up to you, my grandaughter has been playing for about a year, and she's doing well, it depends on your talent and how much work that your willing to put into it. Good luck !!!
