They aren't sure, they just want to believe so badly that they put forth their belief as fact......sound familiar?...LIKE EVERY SINGLE RELIGION EVER THOUGHT UP!

To say that a loved one is in hell is appalling. To say they are in heaven is a comfort. In reality, they would have no idea where they went - they can only make a guess based on how well they knew them.

Whether or not we go to heaven or hell is not determined by what we have done, but rather by what we have believed.
Jhn 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

they just hope that there is a heaven and hell and that their loved one is in heaven. they can't face the truth, that their loved one is dead.

God is the ONLY one that can decide that, and last I checked he does not send us any forwarding address. We cannot know the mind of God.
