Hi there...cats who have an upper respiratory infection (URI)/cat flu will need to receive a short course of antibiotics for secondary infections. URI/Cat flu itself is a viral infections, but can lead to secondary infections which is why antibiotics are beneficial.

My cat once had an illness, its not really the flu. But an Upper Respiratory Illness like a cold more than the flu which is curable with antibiotics administered by a vet, and given to the cat with they're food when taken back home.

I read some of the answers before answering this and i totally argry with Seatle's answer i think your cat doesn't have the flu, when pets go out of state just like humans there are different things for them to get into and he has something but i think it's more than a flu and you shouldn't home medicate you can seriously injure or kill your cat. Please get to a vet!

You need to go to you vet and get your cat some subcutaneous fluids and antibiotics. Cats can not fight off the flu or a cold with out these treatments. Your cat may only get sicker the longer you wait.

GO take that Cat to the VET now !!!
if your cat has flue, this is very serious,
and may even be fatal ,if not treated immediately.
Make sure your sick cat ,has access to water ,
keep it warm and quiet
and get it to the Vet PRONTO !!!!
Note ;
was your cat vaccinated against cat flue ?
Cat flue is not the result of a cat ,getting cold, in bad weather
Cat flue is acquired ,from another sick ( un-vaccinated ) cat .
I hope this is not as serious as it sounds
and your kitty will soon be well .

Sounds like your cat may have an upper respiratory infection. Be careful in can spread lik wild fire. We just went through a bout of it in my house. Your vet will probably prescribe amoxicillan and your cat will be as good as gold in a week. If upper respiratory is not treated it can be fatal. It is so contagious that you could carry the germs on your clothes, visit a friend and end up giving their cat upper respiratory. Be careful.

Make sure the cat does not get dehydrated. Once when my cat was sick I dipped a bit of cotton cloth in water or milk and let him suck on it and did this over and over. Also for fever you can use cold compresses around the neck and on the head. If the cat can eat just feed it lamb and rice or something really digestible in small increments. Good luck.. Poor kitty. Get the cat to the vet as soon as possible.

Your cat needs antibiotics to get rid of secondary infections. If not treated it could affect the lungs and the cat might not be able to breath. I really don't care about your points. You should worry about your cat.

I absolutely agree with ~Seattle~ If your cat is sneezing/discharge from eyes/nose or any of the above it will need some antibiotics. If you have any other cats URI ( upper respiratory infections) are contagious, try and keep them apart if poss.
