My dogs meal consists of Q_tips for breakfast, moldy crumbs for lunch, and and year old crumbs from our floor for dinner. She will NOT eat her dog food! she sniffs it and then takes off looking for anything else she can find. She eats everything but her dog food. She is a daschhound, and chiuauua mix,I think...anyways, it is soooo gross watching her eat dirty q-tips! I cant stand it! She will go in our bathroom, and try to find anything that she can snack on,Its disgusting! She threw up the other day because she swallowed a q-tip,and chocked on it.And in her puke, she had all of the mixed crumbs that she gathered from around the house. And she will not eat her dog food. Not once have I seen her eat her dog food, and we have had her for 2 years! She sniffs it and backs away like its the smelliest thing in the world!Does anyone know why?

Don't take your dog to a psychiatrist yet try this in her food mix some bacon Greece you dogs not a vegetarian and if you want mix in a Lil toast this wont hurt her and its better for her than Q tips and if ur worried about the grease it will give her a heatehy coat because its Natal grease and toast will help make her fuller so shes not looking for a snack also keep a small bowl of this food down for her to eat
I Hope this helps you out

Consult your vet if you have any concerns over health and diet.

Consult a trainer about behaviors that you might want to fix. They should be able to better tell what's going on by talking to you and observing the dog. Someone who calls themselves a psychiatrist for pets is at best as perceptive as a professional trainer but looking for an angle. Ditch flash for substance.

In the meantime, don't let your dog at/near anything that they shouldn't eat. Gates, crates, tethering your dog nearby on a leash will all keep him/her safer. If they try and get near the trash, correct. If they can get in, secure it and/or move it where they cant.

Our dog likes to chase and grab things he shouldn't so we've had to make some changes around the house. He's also a picky eater.
1.Start by keeping garbage and low trash cans out of her way. 2.Keep bedroom and bathroom doors closed unless you know there is nothing she will try to eat.
3.Try getting doggie "gravy" it adds flavor and nutrients and may entice her to eat her own food.
4.Make sure she doesn't get too many treats that will spoil her appetite or that nobody is slipping her "people food".

Good Luck!

Maybe she hates the smell of her dog food!
Try:
Nutro Natural Small Breed
Royal Canin breed specific
Science Diet

Good luck and get a few organic doggy biscuits from the pet store for rewards once in a while.

What does your dog eat on a regular basis? Are you feeding her table scraps?

If you would like to keep your dog out of the bathroom garbage, place it in a higher location.

There is a name for this condition, but it escapes me just now. She must be eating something more nutritious than Q-tips once in a while. At least consult a veterinarian.

The dog and the psychiatrist may not see eye to eye! (A good dog trainer with a lot of experience under his belt, may help you!)
