I have reciently been given a SLR camera, that uses film. When I turn it on there isnt any picture in the view finder. Its a pentax Z-70, I was wondering if anyone would be able to direct me to a user manual too, thats free.

Just wondering is there even a lens on the camera?

Ok, either the mirror that swings up is jammed somewhere and its not directing the light into the view finder or you have the lens cap on. Probably the mirror being jammed. Sorry I have never tried moving a mirror myself, Id take it to Sammy's camera for a service guy to look at it.

Is there a mirror lock on this camera? You need to check around the body to see if there's any little lever that can move. Another idea - is there a viewfinder blind - a gizmo that blacks out the window you look through to prevent stray light affecting exposure when the camera is on a tripod, say for a long exposure.

I don't know where you can get a free user manual - but why not search yahoo groups and look for a Pentax group and re post the question there - perhaps putting the two points I've made. You need to find someone who is used to using the camera.

If you see nothing in the viewfinder that means the shutter is open. try hitting the shutter release button a couple of times and see if it gets unstuck. Bear it mind that there should be an image on the finder if the camera is off or on....
