Yes and no.

Aspartame has been shown to cause cancers in lab animals. But you'd have to drink the equivalent of 18 cases of diet soda a day to get the same dosage, so it's not likely to hurt you.

But, diet soda isn't the healthiest beverage choice. It's fine once in a while, but most of the time you should be choosing water, milk, or fruit juice. (Mostly water!) Some research has shown that diet soda can cause you to feel hungry or crave sweets, which isn't really such a great thing.

So, if you like your diet soda, try not to have more than one a day. All things in moderation.

It can cause lots of arthitis/lupus type symptoms. Many people with lots of fibromyalgia or other autoimmune disorders are greatly relieved or even totally "cured" just by stoping the diet soda with aspartame in it.

If it is diet cola it has phosphoric acid and it harms your teeth. All carbonated drinks, and some flavored waters have carbonated water which is a weak acid. Therefore all these drinks do some damage to your teeth. According to my dentist everyone should brush or use mouthwash after using these drinks.

I assume that all sweeteners have some risks. If you choose sugar drinks you have the possibility of cavities and diabetes if you don't brush and control how much you drink. If you choose artificial sweeteners, they are after all, "artificial". So that means they are fake, not natural. Just like the dyes or preservatives in foods, they are fake to enhance the food.
