Im sure all of us know we have to take sick pets to the vet, but we dont know if we are really over reacting, i also know most of these people are pet lovers and they could sell their souls to evil to take care of their pets, but i mean not everyone feels the same and that doesnt mean we dont care for our pets, if we come here we just wanna make sure we are probably facing something really important and that is not a common sympton. Correct me if im wrong, but we come here for help not for obvious answers right? is it that people just care for the points? now i dont care for the people that post jokes, but i can actually see who is genuine and who is just bothering, dont you get upset when you are in trouble and people just sits there for the points and tells you that you are in trouble???? duhhh! we come here to hear everyones opinion but we also want a good advise not obvious answers...

Right, i know most of the people cant diagnose by reading, but my point is why they answer then, if they dont know why they care, i come for help and all i get is either jokes and 'go to the vet' like one of you said not everyone can go to the vet so we want to know what is an emergency what can be treated at home, for me is totally obvious take my pet to the vet if shes sick but is she sick? thats what im trying to find out i want honest answers not stupid ones, why people can just pass to another questions where they have something good to say instead of buggin? share my experiences and give advices that can actually help right then in the moment, is what i do when i answer, am i wrong or what?

Hi there again Alex...in all honesty, no one should be diagnosing nor recommending any type of treatment as they could be dispensing more harmful advice causing more damage/injury than help even if they are meant with the best of intentions.
If anyone answers here they should be directing you to consider possible causes, which is what I always do rather than direct someone HOW to treat their animal. Most people do not know the possible reasons why a cat may not be feeling well and recommend a veterinarian, which is reasonable since they do not know what could be the possible causes for the illness, etc. This is much better than telling someone HOW to medicate or treat which can be downright dangerous for a pet someone loves so dearly.
I'm sure there are many here who answer just to collect their 2 points, but speaking for myself I answer questions I truly believe I can lend helpful resources for one to investigate to help determine if this is what their cat may be experiencing so they can make an informed decision to bring to the veterinary hospital when meeting with a veterinarian.
By entrusting any stranger here on Yahoo! Answers supplying advice can be troublesome for those who are innocent and unaware by those playing a prank. A licenced veterinarian's opinion/diagnosis under these circumstances should be the ONLY option when it comes to medical concerns. It's very risky to entrust your beloved pet's life to strangers who do not know what they are offering no matter how well-meaning they may be.
My concern is that you self-medicated your senior cat with ibuprofen and this is lethal to cats especially older cats because their kidneys and liver are already compromised and cannot metabolize human medications even if they were healthy.
A phone call to a veterinary hospital would be a safer and more trusted source than any one from here.
I truly hope your cat is fine and my intentions with regards to my answers has been for each of your questions solely to direct you to consider the possible causes why your cat isn't feeling well--nothing more as I don't believe it is appropriate to dispense medical advice or I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I told someone how to innocently kill their cat.
Since joining Yahoo! Answers I make a point to never make any judgement with anyone's questions and never assume anything when I answer as I do not know all the hidden circumstances involved. I also never assume people can afford veterinary care either so I try my best to provide all the possible options to help someone so they can get veterinary care for their beloved pet.

Unfortunately, we are not all vets. We can only tell you if our pet has had the same symptoms and what we paid a vet to tell us, or what we did. There are so many diseases out there, new ones every day it seems like. Some people don't have the money to run to the vet every time our pet sneezes. Network and meet people in your community who know about animals. I don't like to tell people to take their pet to the vet if I don't know the answer, because so many can't afford it. But sometimes, that is the only way. I know some people write silly things for the points, and that's ok, too. Some people really try to answer as best they can or from past experience. If a person told me they were sick and described the symptoms, I might be able to help them, or, what I tell them could actually make them worse. My supervisor told me I had a head cold and refused to let me take time to see a Doctor. When I got so sick I could barely move, I did go to the doctor and was told I was dehydrated and close to being admitted to the hospital. What I am saying is (besides the fact that my supervisor was a jerk) that nobody can say what is wrong better than someone who has years of schooling. Advise we can give you. Opinions we can give you. But, prescriptions we can't, and an accurate diagnosis we can't.

You make a very good point and actually gave me some food for thought. I believe many people answer the pet questions just to get points because it is clear many do not know what they are talking about. As for getting help, I think a lot of us who have been animal owners and lovers for many years are impatient with people who may be new to a pet. Maybe we forget what is obvious to us because of our experience may not be obvious to someone else. I will try to remember that the next time I am tempted to get ticked off with what seems to be a stupid pet question. Perhaps it is just inexperience.

It may be an obvious answer to you but not everyone thinks this way. If people do not have a lot of experience with animals they are not always able to see the obvious. Lots of times what is obvious to us is not to the person with the problem. Most people do love their pets but often a problem does not seem as serious until it is discussed with others. It is like the old saying two heads are better than one. What one person doesn't see/or know another may.

Well, I think the vomiting most likely is due to the new food. She has to adjust to it. As for the worming, I personally never heard that you should not feed the dog after it. In fact my first dog would only take the worming paste if it was mixed with her food. So don´t worry and wait until tomorrow. As you already called the vet and he doesn´t seemed too worried about it just keep an eye on her. If she is still not better tomorrow take her in. By the way: what business has that so called "friend" in feeding YOUR dog while you are not there? If one of my friends would do this I would tear his head off!

i answer questions to the best of my knowlege, but am not a vet. Plus even a vet who read a description would not be able to give out accurate information without seeing the animal in person. We can just give out info based on what we've read. but in the end most people admit they are not experts and do not want their answer to be the final answer so that is why people recommend seeing a vet.

not everything can be diagnosed at home or over the internet. the same goes for treatment. i do not suggest vet if not neccessary and try to provide alternatives that i know of as well if no vet is available
yes, i get upset too. one of my pets was sick while the vet was out of town but all anyone said was take it to the vet! well, not all vets are equally qualified for all animals. especially not where exotic animals are concerned.

99% of the questions deserve the answer "go to the vet". This is not the place for professional advise because most people here are not professionals. Many people also give bad advise.

You are probably right in that it is all about points. :o(
When I have questions about my pet cat or pet mice, I go to the Yahoo!Groups to which I belong. You get real suggestions and meaningful discussions from those folks. You might want to converse there also.

get your answers from the vet. he went to school for years and years so he could give you better answers then a bunch of people who you don't know and may have never owned a pet.
