Chlorine can really fry your hair unless it's really short or you don't go swimming very often. I used to have serious problems (like hterally not being able to brush my hair for 2 days w/ out crying- let alone when I was little it would turn green because I'm blond). Your hair is like a sponge. When it's dry it soaks up water right? If you go swimming without getting your hair wet with regular water 1st your hair will soak up the chlorine. If you get your hair wet and if possible take it a step further by conditioning it (See list at bottom of page) your hair will be too saturated to soak up much more water. Don't shampoo it. Just slather tons of extra moisturizing conditioner. The thicker/less runny the better. I test it when the cashier's not looking! After using tons of that do a 2nd layer to seal it in w/ something like Sunsilk or a drugstore brand clear leave-in laminate w/ a similar look and description as Sunsilk. Sunsilk's at most beauty stores. Wash your hair ASAP after the pool and use a leave in conditioner if you have one.
Don't use any shampoo that's for getting chlorine out. Trust me. I've tried them all and they strip your hair so badly because they're trying to get the chlorine out but they suck for your hair.
Always use shampoos that say gentle or your hair will get stripped of any moisture. The best things ever for your hair are Bumble and Bumble products like Gentle Shampoo and Super Rich conditioner or the Damage therapy line if you have tons of cash. GOOGLE it. Only high end salons have it. It's not in ANY stores.
By the way..If people say your wet hair's lame tell them when the chlorine chemical frizzes and breaks split ends out of their hair they'll look lame.

I would suggest a mild shampoo. Try Dove shampoo. I personally don't use it too often but it does make my hair soft and silky. My favorite shampoo is Loreal's Pro Vive. I'm always trying nre things and I find that Pro Vive is the best for my hair. Everybody's hair is different so I cannot recommend a specific brand. However, mild shampoos like Dove does well after a swim in chlorine-filled water,

The best is a new brand just coming out called Organix. It has organic active ingredients and is sulfate free, so it won't dry out your hair. The fragrances are awesome! You'll be able to but Organix in the next few weeks at Kroger, Target, Duane Reade, Albertsons, Safeway, etc. You'll love it! Its the best!
