OMG, how lame is that?

I'm with the the other post...don't go, this is way tacky and greedy.

Those loser friends of yours should get another job, cut back on expenses, or move to a cheaper place.

I think it's sorta tacky, and also pretty useless since rent is a recurring thing; are they gonna throw a party like that every month? They should really get a place they can afford!

If it's a one-time thing, if they had real bad luck one month with several things breaking down & needing replacing, I could understand it better. In such a case I probably would help friends out with a few bucks and if they would throw a party and make a bit of fun out of it, that's actually not a bad idea :) But I'd probably call it a 'bad-luck' party or a 'junkyard' party or a 'Murphy's law' party and decorate the room with all the broken appliances or something like that!

I have never heard in this. However, in college I remember attending keg parties off campus, you use to pay $5 to get all the beer you wanted and I knew that some of the kids hosting the party would take the profits and pay their rent with it. But, adults, no. That seems tacky.

I've heard of this. I've never heard of anyone coming right out and admitting that the party was to pay rent. It's usually disguised as some party of the year and you have to pay to get in. Then they use the proceeds to pay bills. It's what they did in the movie "Friday After Next".

I have heard of it and it is pretty tacky. If they can't afford the place they are living in, they should try to get a place they can afford. I would never go to a "rent" party and never would ask anyone to help with my rent either. (Except for my boyfriend who lives with me, so he should pay half the rent, anyway)

Never heard of it, but people go to house warming parties and bring gifts for the house. I guess you just bring money instead of a gift to help pay for the rent. Wow, maybe I should try that.... Not. I think my friends would laugh in my face.

No more hilarious than the woman that received over 23k in cash, via the internet, begging for help paying off her debts!

Smart of you to pass on such an opportunity! ;-)

I've never heard of this, but I guess it's the same as when you're in college and throw a kegger. hmmm interesting. I think I might throw a "trip to Europe" party or a "Ipod" party.

One woman started a website to earn $13,000 from strangers to pay her bills. I think it's cheap and tacky.
