It is not really painful, but when I lie down on my left side, it feels like I am lying down on something hard. I also feel this whenever I cough, sneeze, or when I try to massage it. I've had this since December. It hasn't gotten worse nor has it gotten better. What could this be?

I would know if it's muscular but this time it's not. It feels like there's gas trapped inside or there's something hard that whenever I lie down on it, it pushes the other organs.

If your pain is on the left side and around or under your naval area, you might have diverticulitis. This area is where your large intestine makes a turn and is most susceptible to diverticuli irritation or infection. Diverticuli are small pockets that form inside the intestine and food gets trapped in them. At some time, it might get irritated or even inflammed or infected because things like seeds and nuts are not digested and are stuck in the diverticuli. If you're running a low grade fever, please see a doctor. You can try to take something to make your bowels move and that just might relieve the symptoms. This can be very uncomfortable and it will feel like a "tooth-ache type, throbbing pain". I would stop palpating it until I find out what it is. It might be a good idea to see a doc anyway. By the way, your liver is located on the right side of your body with your gallbladder and appendix. Hoping you feel better...Godloveya.

It could be 2 different things, first sounds a lot like a ovarian cyst, or you pulled the side muscle in your stomach, the next time you cough, push down on the spot really fast, if this stops the pain, it's a pulled muscle, stop doing any ab work outs for a while, and it will heal, if you don't the muscle will continue to be irritated
